Advertisements As I may be the last person to switch to HD ( don't want to pay a premium for broadcast, commercial-filled TV), I still have an SD DirecTV DVR and might be the only one to notice this. When I watched Major Crimes when it returned this week the image was squished horizontally. Luckily I could use the same mode that clueless people use to fill their screens with older shows, and instead of making everyone short and fat it corrected the aspect ratio. Tonight, Rizzoli & Isles had the same "feature". I guess this is better than how the local PBS station comes across on DirecTV. Since the source is 16:9 they just lop off the right and left sides to make it 4:3. This way I get the full image and it fills the screen. It's just odd and not what I'd seen done anywhere else.
