Having Suggestions turned on all but eliminates recovery of deleted recordings.
You’re. That’s a contraction. It is short for “you are”.
Ah... that’s why my deleted recordings only were available for recovery for a half a day!!!
Also if you use the higher power saving modes they are disabled anyway (for most of the day).
I'll say it like I have in many other threads over the years, I have had nothing but good luck with Suggestions and have them on for my TE3 boxes because they routinely find me things I'll watch.
One of my boxes regularly gets asked to record mid-late 70's to early 80's shows and it has figured out to record Dragnet, Adam-12, Emergency, and Quincy as suggestions, all very good choices since it's not simply using the decades, I get no sitcoms which is fine with me.. so yes, I view suggestions as a positive feature.
That's valid reason, if you need to recover deleted recordings frequently I guess. That problem can be solved by deleting old suggestions from time to time as well.
The nice thing about having options is we can use our Tivos the way that works best for us.
It all so much also can depend on how much free space one has on the drive.
OMG... the grammar/spelling Gestapo got me! Can you please check my post on www.corvetteforum.com too?
If you have suggestions turned on, you will eventually have no free space on your drive, unless you actively manage them like bobfrank suggests.
I have never found suggestions very helpful, I record purposefully more stuff than I can watch without them. It makes me feel better about deleting stuff that I can recover it if I need to fact-check someone blathering in "Now Playing".
Perhaps eventually, but when I had a 3TB drive with significant space available (perhaps 500GB-1TB?), I never reached, over weeks or even months, a full drive filled with suggestions--instead, I had a lengthy list of suggestions and a lengthy list of deleted items.
If I were only going to use my TiVo for three months I wouldn’t consider it cost-effective.
Just converted over and I’m furious that I’ve no control over suggestions. TiVo just isn’t what it used to be.
Do note: with all boxes but the Bolt OTA and Edge boxes, you can sidegrade back to TE3 (where Suggestions work). Note that you'll lose your recordings--save what you want to your PC first (pyTivo Desktop is good for this).
Well you have one control over suggestions, you can turn them off. I'm with you, don't know why they got rid of Thumbs up and Thumbs down.
Mike is correct... But VOD has killed my PLEX server. I really don't have a reason to save any contact to my PLEX server anymore as I can probably get all of it VOD. But if you like to save programming local for access anytime, TiVo running TE3 is probably a good way to go.
TiVo SUXS big time as it can't handle VOD... But my Samsung TV does it just fine with Android apps. At some point, TiVo will need to change to Android or buy more nails for the coffin. But that's another thread....
Thanks guys. The thing I really liked about TiVo was how user friendly/intuitive it was. This is a step in the wrong direction. pyTivo looks interesting however. I also missed the desktop app as well.
I have suggestions on, but since the day TiVo switched to rovi provided metadata, the tivo has suggested no more than about one program every 2 or 3 months (I previously had it trained pretty well to record random movies in case I got bored and wanted to watch one). There was one exception to this: At some point in spent several days recording every stupid fishing show from every channel that shows them (and in South Florida there are lots of them). I have no idea why. After I got them all deleted, it hasn't happened again.
I see people saying this every now-and-again, but I continue receiving robust and helpful Suggestions under TE3 as much as I ever have.
Same here with TE3 and Comcast.
