This weekend my channel banner started showing "Tivo service unavailable" instead of any show information. When I went to my to do list nothing was scheduled. When I checked the network settings it had recently (within several hours) successfully connected to Tivo. I forced a connection anyway, which was successful, and it downloaded new stuff. My To Do list was still empty and the channel banner still showed "Tivo service unavailable". I rebooted and my channel banner came back, but only a couple of recording showed up in my To Do list. I reordered all the season passes to force Tivo to redo the To Do list and things seemed mostly back to normal. Until I noticed last night that at least a couple of recordings were not going to be recorded for this reason:

I thought this was only a message you could get on the DVD combo Tivos, but I got it on a TivoHD. I contacted Tivo support by chat and they said it was a known issue with no resolution.

I searched and only found this thread from 2006 that seems to describe the same problem:

Has anyone else had this problem?

The funny thing is that other episodes of the two season passes are already scheduled to record. And I just noticed that the two episodes that have that message actually aren't even in the guide anymore.

Thanks for the link to the other thread. It's crazy to me that they've had this issue on TivoHDs going back to at least 2007 and still don't have a resolution (but get enough cases of it that a CSR immediately identified it as a known issue).

I had the same/similar problem last night with my TivoHD; it suddenly said my unit was not activated and would not display the guide or any of my "To Do" items. I followed the same steps (forced a connection and then restarted Tivo). Everything was working again except my "To Do" items were still gone, even though the Season Passes showed they would record. I waited overnight and when I checked again this morning everything was back in my "To Do" except for items I manually picked (i.e. non-Season Pass items). And they had the "Tivo Plus" message you mentioned.

So you're not alone...but I'm still trying to figure out why it "de-activated" in the first place. That's never happened to any of my Tivos. I did try the new Tivo Android App two nights before...coincidence?

did you happen to install the new Tivo app? I installed out Saturday and today both my S3 and Tivo H D were suddenly missing the entire to do list. every season pass said it would not record because it was scheduled with a Tivo plus service that I had not paid for?

Just this morning I got the message that TiVo service was unavailable, and that I needed to activate my HD. I reconnected with no problem, but no guide info. I restarted and my TiVo started making a noise like a propeller airplane--really loud. The noise was coming from somewhere near the front of the unit. Then, about 2 minutes into the reboot, the noise just stopped and the device booted up completely. Then everything appeared back to normal, including season passes and to do list. What scares me is the noise that disappeared.

It's was a replacement unit TiVo sent me about 6 months ago.

Anyone have an idea what the noise could be and how close to failure the unit might be? It sounded more like a fan with bad bearings, not like a clicking hard drive. But it's completely quiet now.

Cooling fans can do that, sounding like a squalling cat one minute and quiet the next. And the fan would run at full speed during a reboot until the main program code invokes the temperature-controlled fan speed routine, at which point it would slow down. So it sounds like your fan may be failing. But I have no idea what caused your original problem. I suppose a failing fan could cause heat problems. And if your TiVo isn't on a UPS, it should be.

Yesterday I got the same message about my Tivo not being activated. I checked my wireless connection and it was excellent and system info showed lifetime service. I forced a connection and it downloaded a bit of a program update but did not fix the problem. I rebooted and all appears to be ok.

    Strange.

I also have had the same message on my TiVo HD. Network worked fine and I also noticed that the Media Key entry under System Information was missing. I also could not transfer any shows from my other boxes. I powered-cycled the box and it seems to have fixed the issue in THAT box. I have 4 other TiVo HDs (652160) and in the last week they have all required a power cycle in order to network properly again. Did TiVo send out a s/w update that hosed things up? It wouldn't surprise me.

Well it's 2015 and the problem just showed up for me.
The todo list is not empty it's flat out GONE.
I have a TiVo Premiere and no external drives.

If someone comes up with an ides so I don't loose
    everything that would be cool.
    Thanks

You should post in the Premiere forum. Can you successfully make a connection to TiVo? Do you see guide data for upcoming shows and your Season Passes look OK?
