    Hi,

I have a tivo series 2 standalone and am looking to purchase a new hard drive. I'm looking at the Seagate DB 35 Series, but it looks like this has a 40 pin IDC connector and the tivo has a 50 pin IDC. Can anyone confirm if this drive will work in the tivo series 2 standalone?

    Thanks!

    Eric

Yes, Seagate db 35 drives are compatible with Series 2 Tivos.

That drive that you referenced is a SATA drive.

All of the series 2 Tivos use PATA/IDE drives.

So if you want to use a SATA drive in a Series 2 tivo then you will need to use a SATA to PATA adapter.

I know that you can go up to 1 terabyte in size. I am not sure if you can go larger than that.

I'm pretty sure all of the Series 2 TiVos, like the Series 1s, used a regular 40 pin IDE/PATA connection. SCSI drives used to use 50 pin connectors, but I don't think there's ever been a TiVo that used SCSI drives.

The which SATA to IDE adapter to use with which drive in which TiVo thread is here

and is must reading for anyone wanting to put a SATA drive into a Series 1 or Series 2 TiVo.
