I just received my roamio ota and would like to upgrade it's harddisk. I understand that this is really easy if I use a brand new drive but I would prefer to reuse a 1.5 tb drive I already have. This drive is currently formatted for windows.

Can I just put this in the roamio and will it sort itself out or do I need to do something with the the drive first?

Windows and Tivo file systems are completely different. All you need to do is to wipe the drive of all data and partitions, put the drive in the Tivo and power it up

You don't even have to wipe it. A Roamio will overwrite ANYTHING except a drive that's already set up correctly for a Roamio.

    Thanks you very much.

I will just put in my old drive and everything should just work. I can't believe how much easier this has become.

One caveat is to make sure TiVo's puny power supply can meet the power needs of your drive.
