TiVo announced today that they are teaming with Real Networks to offer Rhapsody service through the TiVo broadband interface.

Now if only DirecTv could develop its own music service that doesn't have 4,000,000 songs available, they could change the interface so no one familiar with Rhapsody could use it, and they could put it on their own unreliable hardware that would entice people to pay $300 to lease it with a two-year contract (only to regret that decision later). Surely millions of Rhapsody customers would cancel their subscription because DirecTv thinks they have "improved" the generic on-line music service product.

That would be great !!!

From my experience with Crhapsody, I don't think Directv would have to change anything. :D

No kidding. Rhapsody is pretty bad. Used it for a year. Got tired of constantly reconnecting my mp3 devices to 'relicense' my music. At one point, had to reconnect DAILY just to play songs.

Switched to Napster, only have to connect the devices once a month (like it should).

Any other complaints besides reconnecting. I am in a trial period with my Sonos system and like it so far. Don't use it for MP3 devices but just throughout the house on Sonos and now Tivo.

Nope, no other complaints. Since I used Rhapsody only for my mp3 players, it was worthless. Couldn't take my player on vacation as the music couldn't be played unless connected to their service daily.

Thanks for the info but is that their policy or do you think it was an issue?

They advertise licenses should be good on portable players for 30 days. Definitely a deal killer for me, as I don't drag my laptop with me everyday.

I have had Rhapsody for 3 years and RhapsodyToGo for over a year and haven't had any problems with the synching. I would love to have this feature on my Tivo.

There was a bug in Rhapsody 4.0 that made it so that licenses needed to be renewed more frequently than every 30 days, but this is now fixed, and has been for some time.

    (Yeah, I work for them.)
