I have someone considering selling me their TiVo Premiere for $60 which they bought at Best Buy in Jan but have never used. I currently have a TiVo HD on MSD $6.95 and a TiVo S2DT on $12.95. I'd like the Premiere to replace the S2DT.

Only think keeping me from this is the $19.99 plan. Is there anything I can do to bring that down? Would TiVo allow me to transfer the $12.95 price from the S2DT?

You can always call and ask, but I suspect you will either have to do the $19.99 plan or product lifetime.

I'm fairly certain that, assuming that the MSD is month to month, you can cancel it. Then, you can do a "Change TSN" to switch the Tivo HD onto the $12.95 plan.

Then you could activate the Premiere for a msd of $14.95. Really no shenanigans there, imo.

Seems all pretty straightforward to me.

Please post what you find out.

Also, if you can get by with OTA (over the air) only, you can try activating the Premiere(online) with the OTA promo code for the $9.95/mo plan.

I think there are a couple threads here discussing the details of this plan(some may be trying it without doing ota only).

That should work. OP, ignore my post above ...

Yeah but doing that I'd actually pay more. $14.95+12.95=27.90 vs $26.94.

    Thanks though.

Realistically though, the $26.94 is (probably)not doable. That being, the $27.90 is decent.

But with more thought, it certainly won't hurt to call to ask. They just may go for it. Certainly don't think you can beat $26.94 except the "ota only" promo.

And since you will be activating a Premiere, you might consider the deal being discussed(somewhere around here) where a lifetime sub for $99 on an in service unit(Tivo HD, etc) is being offered with a full sub on Premiere.

I'm pretty sure if you cancel the S2 sub you will lose the $6.95 MSD because that is the qualifying unit. You might want to check into that just to be safe.

If you call to cancel the HD They will probably offer $99 lifetime as a retention offer. With the HD on lifetime you may be able to get $14.95 for the Premier.

I wondered about that too. But don't you have to pay full rate on a subscription, for it to be a "qualifying" subscription?(Or did I just make that up?)

Although in the op's case, his 12.95/mo plan is a qualifying sub anyway.

If the $12.95 S2 is the qualifying unit, why isn't it at the grandfathered full price like the MSD'ed $6.95 unit? Wasn't full price $9.95 when MSD was $6.95?

'Cause S3 and below, it's now $12.95 full price, $9.95 MSD.

$9.95 hasn't been full price since 2002 when it went up to $12.95. $6.95 remained the MSD until around 2009 when it went up to $9.95.
