TiVo OTA v. DirecTV

    It would work for a short period of time until it contributed to burning up the month's data cap. And then it wouldn't.

    You can pay more money and get a higher data cap with satellite internet. My point is that the additional money spent there would probably outweigh the $20 per month early termination fee for cancelling DirecTV or DISH before your contract is up. If he goes with satellite TV, then he may be able to make do with the very cheapest satellite internet plan, which wouldn't be feasible for lots of streaming video.

    Up to a point where you're still at a fraction of the usage of even a moderately tech-savvy user. For very low-usage users, then that trade-off would be correct.
