I was going to reactivate my Tivo Roamio Plus, but they now want $19.99/month. It used to be $14.99/month. When did this increase start? I do have my regular Roamio that I got my decreased to $6.99/month from $14.99.

    This is what it shows..

Interesting. Nothing on the TiVo website indicates the standard monthly service fee has increased. Have you tried calling?

Sounds like they are trying to get people into Annual vs. monthly in order to get fees upfront.

For 14.99 you have to commit to a year according to this.

God their fees are already high for what you get. $20/mo, plus what $300-500 for the hardware, is too much.

I wonder if they are actually trying to discourage retail customers so they can scrap their helpdesk and just let the cable companies handle things through their own support. Software and guide only and no hardware or users to deal with?

they still need to support the current users since they are still providing hardware to sell and software

Yes. When they bundled the first year of service with the Bolt, that wasn't too bad of a deal. I would expect to pay really not more than $200-250 for a 500 GB bolt with 1st year included. That then is a competitive replacement for a cable provided MSO DVR ($10-$20/m). Then the ongoing payments of $12.50/m (yearly price) makes it still cheaper.

Sure they do but it doesnt mean that they cant discourage retail. Comcast still supports cable cards but they sure discourage using them and seem to be trying to phase them out for the future. It seems to me this is what TiVo *might* be trying to do.
