It looks like the new Mini wasn't the only update to their website that TiVo implemented last night. Amazon had already started selling it, so it was already no longer a Best Buy exclusive. I guess the OTA model launch was considered successful and it will be sticking around.

I told my sister and she is so excited to have a DVR again (since she doesn't have cable). I hope it works great for her! I should get a referral bonus since I told her about it! ha

If they allowed lifetime I'd buy one.

It will be very interesting to see what options there are once the early adopters are past the initial 12 month contract. Tivo's retention department will want to keep them just as much as an OTA Roamio Basic customer, so no reason to think there wouldn't be more options available at that point, and eventually a lifetime conversion option.

Don't they still sell the Roamio Basic? This is what I use for OTA.

Basic costs $150 more. For the same same hardware, minus a CC slot.

    Still $100 more.

If you only ever plan to record OTA then what's the point of paying $100 more for a CableCARD slot you're never going to use?

Although with that whole loyalty program I might just do a little shuffle instead. I might by my Sister a Roamio Plus, give my Mom her Premiere XL4 and a Mini to replace her two Premiere 2 tuners, then use one of the Premier 2 tuners for myself for OTA and sell the other one to recoup part of the cost.

I would also buy it if it had lifetime.

Does anyone know if you add this OTA box along with a Roamio Plus, could you utilize the streaming function in the Plus to stream from the OTA box? What other advantages are there to having two main boxes? I currently have a Plus and 3 Minis, but if I go straight OTA (no cable), I think the Plus will pretty useless except for apps and streaming.

Yes they can stream between one another. However unlike the Mini you can't make another TiVo the host. You have to manually select it from My Shows, then browse it's list of shows, and then play something from there. One more step then using a Mini.
