My friend gave me his old tivo. When I opened the box because I heard something rattling, I noticed the IR Control cable was disconnected.

This is the cable coming from the IR sensor in the front to the mother board.

I plugged it back in, powered on the tivo. The TiVo works fine, but i cannot get any response from the unit with the remote.

The remote lights up and to test the remote, i programmed it to turn on and off my TV.

    It has brand new batteries.
Its not a remote where you can switch tuners.
On the front of the tivo, the red led doesnt display as if it were getting signal.

I am thinking it has something to do with that cable.

Since the cable from the IR sensor to the main board was disconnected, maybe the sensor itself isn't positioned correctly inside the case.
