This is either the most sarcastic thread in the history of the internet, or there are many many Tivo stockholders here - terrified that Tivo is losing money and will soon die.
Regardless, how any sane person would WANT their user interface marred by corporate sludge shows exactly how insane many people are around here. Amazingly unsophisticated in their desire for technological elegance. There is no other way to say it - if you want more ads, you're a fool. Personally, I enjoy a slick, CLEAN user interface.
Some people have no standards apparently. I laugh at you all. Hahahahah. Go make me a sandwich.

You don't need to be a stockholder to worry about TiVo's financial stability...all of us who like the TiVo service/UI/feature set want the company to stay healthy.

There are yellow-star entries on the main menu, additional lines in the "delete" confirmation, "thumbs up" popup on some commercials, and static popups that overlay commercials as you fast-forward through them. Were exactly is the obnoxious stuff?

Well, it's a trade-off. If one more yellow star results in a $5/month price drop, most people would accept that. If there are 20 more yellow stars that only result in a $0.20 price drop, people won't accept that.

I have no idea how Atomike posts in this forum. Didn't he see the banner ads on top of the screen? It must be killing him. Does he ever wonder why he doesn't need to give his credit card number before using this forum?

If I paid $300 lifetime fee for the forum, and there were banner ads too, then your analogy might start to make sense. As it stands, you are making my point for me again. Thank you. You folks are just silly. Again, I mock you. And where's my sandwich?

I've been a very happy Tivo owner since early 2000. I can't imagine TV without it.

A few lines on the main screen don't bother me in the slightest. I don't even consider them ads.

What I do is play them all when I'm not watching so Tivo gets the credit for it.

I WANT Tivo as a company to continue to exist, and ads not only help keep our rates down, but also gives them revenue.

Whatever ads are there aren't bothering me, as long as I can watch shows unimpeded and whenever I want, I say bring them on.

I also pay monthly service instead of pre-paying because I figure that does my slight part to keep Tivo afloat.

I see where you're coming from.
My view is, as a lifetime Tivo owner, I can tolerate the ads because I don't have to pay monthly fees.
If I did have to pay monthly, I might feel differently.

to tell you the truth, i would be all for this. Local information is the only important information to people. I'd love to know about local energy production, farmers markets within a 3 metro stop radius, sales at stores within same radius etc.

Why would I want to pay Tivo a Monthly Fee just to watch more and more ads?

My Tivo is to watch recorded shows that I have chosen to record, not to sit around and watch ads.

I believe this is the hidden potential of TiVo that could turn TiVo into a Google. They now our location, and they know our tv watching interest's. Harness that with some specific advertising from local companies. Now thats powerful advertising.

I must agree with you my Brother. Us Sane people must stick together on this Board.

And what must be described as the most brillant description ever written:

"Amazingly unsophisticated in their desire for technological elegance"

You are a Scholar and a Gentleman.

Quite the oxymoron, or rather, quite the contradiction...

    Saying things like,

"You folks are just silly. Again, I mock you."

    and

"Some people have no standards apparently. I laugh at you all. Hahahahah."

Is far from being a gentleman, and shows lack of any scholarly-like mature or adult-like discussion or debate, but is instead more typical of child-like taunting behavior...

So your sane because your infuriated by one line of text? It's not like these are pop up ads that get in the way of watching your shows. When you agreed to pay for TiVo service no where did it say that TiVo will not advertise on your box. Advertising is a revenue stream for TiVo and the only reason they should give it up is if people are willing to pay more for no ads or if people aren't willing to buy the product because of the ads. Do I like advertising? For the most part no, but if its for a product that I would like to be informed about or if its entertaining, then I don't mind them. Think about it, if TiVo makes 1 million from ads getting rid of them means they need to make that money some other way and the only other revenue stream for TiVo is us. Vote with your wallet instead of coming on here and bitching. If you don't like TiVo's business model then don't by their product. If enough people feel the same way as you (judging from the responses in this thread they don't) then Tivo will change their business model.
