'Bout time Tivo figured out how to coincide their appearance on the CableLabs list with their own press releases / product announcements / etc.

I've been clicking on that darn .pdf every day for like two weeks now looking for that. Then I forget today with all the commotion.

    Good to see it.

Why could they self-verify this new device the first time thru?

Can someone give a brief post about what this means exactly?

You only have to submit your first product to CableLabs for verification. After that ... you're free to run the tests yourself (self-verify). Only reason Tivo had to go back for 'verification' for the S3 was for the M-UDCP verification.

Once a company has (successfully) completed the CableLabs verification process for one UDCP model ... they may self-verify any or all future UDCP models. Run the tests ... sign the letter ... send to CableLabs ... get your keys ... done and done.

The M-UDCP verification process is a superset of the UDCP verification process so ... Once a company has (successfully) completed the CableLabs verification process for one M-UDCP model ... they may self-verify any or all future M-UDCP (and UDCP) models. Run the tests ... sign the letter ... etc.

Tivo is free to self-verify any future UDCP or M-UDCP models.

It means that Tivo ran these tests:
    http://www.cablelabs.com/udcp/downloads/UNI-DIR-PICS-I03.pdf
    http://www.cablelabs.com/udcp/downloads/UNI-DIR-ATP-I05-040629.pdf

    And probably these:

    http://www.cablelabs.com/udcp/downloads/TP-ATP-M-UDCP-I03-070510.pdf

And signed and sent CableLabs a letter similar to what's found in Appendix B of the following:

So its likely that the one announcement covers both for TiVo HD?

How might TiVo's passage affect the verification of products that might embed the TiVo HD design, ie. a TV?
