What isn't so obvious is whether Amazon is selling it or one of its affiliates.

At least HiDef Lifestyle isn't charging shipping.

Pardon my ignorance, what is the obvious reason? Is Comcast rental tivo imminent?

Wow,at this price what's the point of using a CC DVR? I was happy to pay $259 in August (and still happy). Go forth consume.....

Now if Comcast could just rewrite their billing system so consumers don't have to make the obligatory call to remove all excessive charges, we'd be set. ;)

Depends if you want to actually receive all of the channels that you are paying for.

Amazon might want to push their Unbox product maybe.

I guess it changes based on which company they are shipping from.

    Good article shady.

Earlier today, the price showing was $239 when I clicked the above link, but it was shipping from HiDef not Amazon. Now HiDef's price is $244 no shipping charges. The current $249 price is from Amazon itself (which was not available earlier today) and is eligible for free shipping.

Clearing cookies didn't change the current prices, so maybe either Amazon or HiDef is price-testing?

I'm pretty sure that stopped shortly after the negative press and potential legal issues.

$250 is a very reasonable price for the TiVo HD.

I got an email from TiVo just now, that through 11-8-2007, you can buy TiVo HD for $299 + transfer lifetime for $199 from my series one.

Question, can I get the even cheaper HD from Amazon for $249 and still transfer my lifetime for $199? Effectively converting my series one LT to an HD LT for $448?

The fact that one person managed to convince a Customer Service Representative to bend the rules doesn't mean anyone else will be able to do so. The transfer offer requires you to purchase the TiVoHD from TiVo.com.

You can try buying it at Amazon, but be prepared for the possibility of being disappointed when you ask for the transfer offer.

True. But the old S3 lifetime offer also said you had to buy the TiVo from tivo.com, but TiVo kept allowing people who bought elsewhere to do the transfer anyway.

Personally, I think they should be firm and stick to the rules they set.

Actually, the previous offer was *vague* about having to buy it from tivo.com.
It said (paraphrase) "buy it for $799" or somesuch.. not that it specifically had to be from tivo.com.

So they didn't even follow that part.

I still have a S1 lifetime. This is tempting, to get rid of my other S1 for another tuner + another lifetime offer.

Yes, the deals keep getting better, though ironically the timing isn't too good. My Lifetimed S1 has been doing some horrible stuttering, and I just got finished installing a new hard drive, and it's running good as new now. However, the drive was free as it's the old 80GB drive that used to be in my S2 before I upgraded that one to 250 GB. So that old TiVo drive has been called back into service.

It's $19 cheaper than Amazon, but they charge $19 for shipping while Amazon is free.
