I recently received an email from Tivo saying I could buy a Tivo HD from them for $299 and because I have other Tivo units on my account (some lifetime, one not) that I could get $100 off a Lifetime sub for the unit, bringing the cost for it down to $299 as well.

Looks like I could save $50 by buying the Tivo HD from Amazon, though.

If I do so, will I still be able to get the $299 Lifetime from Tivo, or will I have to pay the full $399?

you will still be able to get it. Just order the Tivo. When it comes log into your tivo.com account and click on the Activate a Tivo DVR link. It should show the MSD pricing once you enter the device information.

Lifetime is normally $399 so it should be $299 with $100 off.

I just bought a "new" TivoHD from a friend that got it with a TV she got from Amazon (for $150). She didn't want a Tivo, but I decided we needed a third for an additional room. (Frys also had the "official" external drive on sale, so I got that too.)

I note all that to say that the lifetime offer was $299 when I registered this one. Now I just wish I could convert my prepaid plan to lifetime ($99 more would be reasonable) and the monthly one. I would go for $299 for the one that still has 2 years of a 3 year commitment left if I could convert the other for the cost of the year I already used in the 3 year prepay. :)

Too bad that is not an option....
