My 3 year old Roamio OTA has served me well. No real problems. But I am noticing it being slightly noisier when the TV is off and the room is quiet. Not a grinding, but more of a whirring. It's not annoying, as you can't hear it once the TV is on. But I've never really noticed any noise coming from it until the last few weeks or so.

I'm assuming the Roamio has a couple of hard drives in it. Could those be starting to wear out?

Your Roamio has one hard drive in it. But most likely it is a fan that's making your noise.

Use a can of computer compressed air and blow into the fan. I stick an object in the fan slots to hold it firm and steady so as to not over spin the fan. Dust on the fan's leading edge can cause out of balance and then noise.

If you can tap on the case of the Tivo and sounds goes away, it's the fan bearings. Just change the fan.
