Our TiVO S2's hard drive is failing and there are a few programs that we would like to save. We've got them on the PC via TiVo desktop and are awaiting the arrival of a new hard drive but is there a way to restore the desktop files back to the replacement hard drive once it's installed?

From what I can find I think the answer is "no," but thought I would check.

If we can't restore we'll transfer the programs (as best we can) to a DVD for posterity.

You should have no problems restoring the files back to the new hard drive via Tivo Go Back. As long as the MAK from the Tivo Desktop software matches the Tivo boxes MAK then you should be able to see your PC from the NPL and transfer them back over. Or you could always back up your failing tivo drive with all the shows and restore it to the new HDD.

Hard drive installed fine - but I can't find any instructions on using TiVoGoBack. All the links in the forum go to a dead TiVo support page and the search in the official support forums give no clues to the program or process....

How do I use it (or anything else) to get the original TiVo programs back to the new hard drive?

    Thanks.

Look at the bottom of the Tivo's "Now Playing List" and you should see your PC (which has to be turned on obviously). Select it, then select a show to bring back to the Tivo. Lather, rinse, repeat.
