Im heading to Vegas in a week for CES. I know tivo will have a booth there. I believe they showed off new software/hardware last year but you had to have some kind of tivo VIP pass to get in (maybe press only?). Im really interested to see what tivo is showing off this year, and was wondering if anyone knew if they were doing limited access again this year?

Tivo has always had an invite only show. Some years they have a "public" booth as well but the good stuff seems to always get revealed behind closed doors. Social engineering is your best bet to get in.

See if you can get fellow TCF'er Dave Zatz to get you in.

I unfortunately haven't been able to go to CES for the past few years but the days of TiVo having a booth are long gone. They've had a meeting room in the same location for years.

In every year that I've gone to their meeting room, it was open for any attendee to drop by. However, one year that I went, it was closed unless one had an invitation. I presume they were showing stuff to folks under NDA.

Any idea why that would be?

Don't you want to generate a buzz?

    All depends.

The year I got to go to CES, I met with a bunch of storage companies and signed NDA's and they were showing and asking my opinion on their new products that weren't 100% done yet. At the time it was a lot of the media room stuff, like WD Live and all that.
So it wasn't ready for prime time or even getting it out there at all in case they axed a feature all together.

-That was really cool, seeing a ton of cool things that weren't known the public for 6 more months :D

I was really exited about the 'network transcoder' as at first I thought it was a little box that acted as an extender - but it seems to be something that just works with the iOS app...

They really need an extender! I guess maybe this would work along with AppleTV or something?

    Weird...

They already have an extender, the Preview, the problem is they won't sell it to consumers.
