    Allow me to vent.

I recently reacquired my distant broadcast stations from Dish. No big deal except when it came to configuring my Tivo(s).

Seems Tivo limits you to the channels you can configure based on a line-up they get from a vendor called Tribune. Sounds like a newspaper to me.

Anyway, since the Tribune does not show these channels in my line-up, Tivo tech support must process a request. The tech advised me this would take 3 to 5 days and I would be notified by Tivo. The how is another story.

Will here it is over a week later and no notifications. So I call Tivo support again. I am advised the “head-end” channel line-up for my area does not list the distant broadcast stations and am advised Tivo support must submit a request for the addition of my specific channels. I said this was done and I have yet to hear back, please provide the status of the previous request.

The tech, a nice person advised the request was not previously submitted and we have to start the process over again.

OK, this sucks. I have been dealing with this issue since the middle of Jan 2007.

Yes, I am waiting and I am posting this message to:
    1. Vent
    2. See if anyone from Tivo customer care/services reads these messages.
    3. See if anyone from Tivo follows up on a customer concern.
    4. See if anyone else has had similar issues with channel line-ups.

When I configured my first Tivo a few years ago, I could add any channel and it worked great. Tivo has improved their management of the channel line-up, but they also taken away our ability to modify the channels for our specific needs. Yes, I can remove channels from the official Tivo channel line-up for my area, but I can not add what they don’t think I should get. Tivo is now protecting us.

This is BS at the highest level. Does anyone have a good contact number at Tivo HQs in San Jose. Who do you call to speak to a real Tivo employee in San Jose.
    Thanks,
    Mike Angles in San Jose

What channels are missing? For my Dish lineup, the channels numbers in the 5700 range have been available for a couple of months now.

Check Tribune Media Services website at Zap2It.com to see if your channels are listed. Have you re-run guided setup to see if the lineup is there?

    Per Wiki:
Because of this, mydistantnetworks.com took over channels 241 thru 248 with channels from Atlanta and San Francisco. If you still have NYC or LA channels coming to your receiver, they're mapped as follows:

    NYC (East coast distant networks)
    8100 WABC (Old 245)
    8101 WCBS (Old 243)
    8102 WNBC (Old 241)
    8103 WNYW (Fox) (Old 247)
    8104 WPIX (CW)
    8105 WWOR (MyTV)

    LA (West coast distants)

    8000 KABC (old 246)
    8001 KCBS (old 244)
    8002 KNBC (old 242)
    8003 KTTV (old 246)

    Wow.

OK people - Tivo Tech support needs you!

Dr. Restart and Maniacal1 you nailed it. The distant channels are mapped to the 5731 to the 5738 range. Hence 241 become 5731 and so forth. A few other posts also noted a potential reassignment of my distant channels to this high channel area.

Why Tivo is not aware of this change I do not know and at this point I will never ask Tivo Tech support for help again. They just don't know!!

The Tribune Media Service tv list showed our channels. In 3 minutes I fully resolved this issue with your help.

My thanks to all of you making recommendations.

    Happy in San Jose,
    mike angles (wife happy too)

Tivo tech support called today and left a message on my answering machine. The caller, "Chris" left a nice message advising receipt of Distant Channels is no longer legal and hence I would not be able to obtain the programming from Dish, therefore Tivo would not update my channel line-up to record said channels.

As previously posted, we know the distant channels are included in the Tivo channel line-up in the 5731 to the 5738 range and the 8100 to 8105 ranges.

The folks at Tivo just have no idea of the BS their support staff is giving their customers. Maybe this is why Tivo, with the best digital recorder can't make a buck.

I wish Tivo would send me a customer survey, but I know this won't happen.

I fought this same problem for months without success. :(

I subscribe to the distant networks via MyDistantNetworks.com/AllAmericanDirect.com for all 4 feeds from Atlanta and San Francisco. The channel information properly shows on my DishNetwork guide on channels 241-248 but I can't get the TiVo to use these channels.

I've submitted multiple tech support requests and called multiple times but they were no help. I finally got to talk to a tech from the head-end department to explain it. They still have in their computers that channels 241-248 are the NY and LA feeds that were removed due to a court ruling last December. If they were to add those channels back into my guide, they would be in legal trouble. I explained in detail the agreement between Dish and All American Direct but he just kept saying that he can't add the channels no matter what.

I wrote a couple letters to Dish and TiVo a few months ago but I doubt I will ever hear back from them.

If ANYONE from TiVo reads this thread, please have a supervisor go read about the deal with All American Direct (or call a DishNetwork programming supervisor) and put the Atlanta/SanFran guide data down on 241-248 like it should be. Those channels are NO LONGER the NY/LA feeds that go against the court ruling.

Thanks to this thread I now see the mydistantnetworks channels on my Tivo *but* as of a week ago, the CBS station (5733) disappeared. Is anyone else having this problem? Any idea of how to fix it?

    Traverse...
I had this same problem a month ago, e-mailed and called TiVo and got no help. They sent me the same 3rd party vendor excuse everybody else is getting. I finally found thru this forum about the 5731 chs. that the TiVo "channel lineup specialist" doesn't know about. THEN TiVo even sends me an e-mail a week later asking how well was the help I got. I answered back explaining the whole thing to them, never heard back. And now I see it is still going on. Hmmnn.....

Yes, it's gone from my line up too. TiVo even sent a message stating it had been pulled from the Dish line up. I e-mailed AllAmericanDirect.com and they replied that the 5700 channels are their old ones and that I should be using ch's 241-249 and that the channel guide problem is TiVo.
So when you call Dish, they tell you to call AllAmerican. When you call AllAmerican, they tell you to call TiVo, when you call TiVo they tell you to call Dish!

5733 is working for me now (it was out for a bit) but if they are going to be dropping them in favor of 24x channels then we need to get this problem resolved.

I now have NPS informational channels on 240 and 250 so obviously DishNetwork is showing that these 24x channels are no longer the NY/LA feeds that were removed. So how do we get TiVo to acknowledge this as well and allow us to use 24x channels?
