pretty positive the total will be higher. The question is if the tivo-owned will be up or down.

I think over all up is a pretty safe bet.

Now if you want to break out just Stand Alone only the answer might be a little more up in the air.

An IP STB... Could that be a tunerless Preview? Or a Roku-like extender of sorts for the transcoder?

Rogers says explicitly "By the end of the summer" for these 2 boxes.

So the transcoder has only two ports, an Ethernet port and a power supply port - seems to me like a device absolutely crying out for PoE, think TiVo may have missed a trick here. :(

With so many low power streamers now coming on to the market, isn't it time PoE started kicking all those per-device wall warts into touch?

anyone have any links to info of the IP STB? If it's like a preview then I'm in.

the transcoder needs to allow streaming outside the home- I'm alright with limits or whatever they need to do but it needs to stream to my tablets where ever they are if I'm going to be bothered with that.

Yeah If it doesn't allow streaming outside the home its pretty much useless to me, like I get the use of having your TV on your iPad anywhere in the house, but the difference between having it in your house and having it on vacation is huge.

I'm only a week into my second Tivo experience (had a TivoHD way back when, just bought an Elite) and this is exactly what I wanted to hear.

I'm still renting a cablebox for the bedroom for a programming guide there. If this IP-STB allows binding a tuner from the Elite and WiFi-N streaming, I'm in day 1. Unless it has a ridiculous "service" cost.

From the article, it says "within the home".

Yeah, I corrected that in replies to the original article too.. "sideloading of recorded content for offline viewing"

The sideloading sounds like a straightforward way of loading up my Netbook with shows just before I travel

Wasn't the original S3 the last unsubsidized box they sold? At least when it was initially offered. It retailed for $800.

The Premiere's are subsidized. That is why they only cost $100 and require a contract.

That answer was in response to a leading question from an analyst which amounted to "Now that you've got your MSO business going why don't you ditch the retail business."

Is the Elite subsidized? It's ridiculously expensive. ($900-$1000 with lifetime..) I say this as someone with a dead S3 (that was about $850 out the door including lifetime).
