Would it be better for threads concerning shows aired in the UK to be created in "UK General Chit Chat" for the lack of a "UK TV Show Talk" forum?

Whilst it is "TV Show Talk", the shows are being obtained outside of regular Televisual transmissions, and being in a UK dedicated section should stop the habitual "What channel is it on?" questioning leading to usual BitTorrent, Limewire or Usenet response plus leaving (usually) the only thread for the show in here being the one that will be created for the US airing at a later date.

Plus it would help invite UK viewers into the conversation.

Good idea. But people in this forum are challenged when it comes to remembering rules. I think they'd often forget and post it here anyway. Of course, maybe the mods could move any UK show threads started here, but I don't know if we want to go that far.

I recognize the need for separate UK and US chit-chat and Tivo forums, but I wish there were a forum where we could all get together. (Like back when we had the separate War in Iraq forum that both sides of the pond participated in. It was nice talking to all the Brits. :) )

The powers that be have used their power to proclaim illegally obtained video not aired or at least not yet aired in the U.S. to be forbidden topics of discussion. The only current UK show discussions I see are series like Torchwood and Dr. Who that are currently being aired in the U.S. on BBCA, which makes them acceptable for discussion in this forum.

The problem is that they have not really enforced this. The "...pilot episode leaked" threads come to mind. Although, at this point most of these have been made legally obtainable via Amazon Unbox.

I know but don't the threads created for the UK airings by US members bend that rule, being that they themselves have most probably not viewed them by legal means and if so are also posting much more that one hour before the US airing?

I'm a in no way asking for TPTB to enforce those rules more often, I am just suggesting that we post in a section intended for the intended audience of the shows.

Perhaps our new benevolent overlords could find it in themselves to create a "UK TV Show Talk"

    They out right break it.
IIRC, it was the Torchwood and Dr Who discussions this past spring that prompted TPTB to crack the whip in the first place and the entire basis was the legality of the videos. TCF doesn't want to condone illegal downloads.

Well, the Iraq War happened at the same time for both Brits and 'Mericans alike. Doctor Who and Torchwood happen months apart.

Sounds like Sherminator is onto something then. Those who wish to discuss UK shows would be better doing so in the UK forums to avoid scrutiny. ;)

Maybe so, I have no idea as I'm not a big UK show fan. What are you trying to say? I just meant that it would nice to have a forum, any forum, that members from both countries participated fully in.

I don't know.. I think it is dumb. This forum is called "TV Show Talk". It does not imply any country or origin.

People are making all kinds of assumptions. I am not sure why a forum for TV Talk, can not just contain discussions about TV. Seems silly to break down the forums by country for TV Talk. Completely unnecessary.

I understand if they don't want to allow discussion of methods or means that some people might use to potentially break the law. However none of that has anything to do with the actual discussion of tv shows. All it does is have people making all kinds of assumptions about what others might or might not be doing.

We'll need forums for Aussie TV ( Sea Patrol , City Homicide ) Canadian TV ( ReGenesis, Stargate: Atlantis ) French TV ( The Shield ), Malaysian TV ( The Amazing Race Asia ), Apple TV ( sneak previews of fall shows), Amazon UnBoxed ( more sneak previews of fall shows ). Oh, and another one for Web only broadcasts of previews, extra scenes or cancelled show burn offs.

Anyone who doesn't want to read about a show they don't get, haven't seen yet, or in some cases will never see on U.S. TV, doesn't need to enter the thread. I don't understand why any one would be so concerned about what someone else is watching or other people are discussing.

I'd be happy to preface my posts with "I was at the Motel 6 in Saskatoon last week and happened to see...."

I think part of the problem was that it became a "contest" in which people were starting to post threads about a show waaaay before it actually started. In some cases, sneak previews seen by other people may have spoiled it for the majority of people who watch it at the scheduled time (or afterward thanks to TiVo). Thus the "not more than 1 hour before Eastern time" rule was initiated. The UK thing is really just a reinforcement of that rule.

It absolutely is stupid to have interpreted the rules as they have. The current rules about not starting a thread for a TV show earlier than 1 hour before it airs came about solely because of people who started posting earlier and earlier just to talk about how anxious they are to see it (as well as several people trying to beat everyone else to creating "the" thread -- which they still compete over, so that didn't help), which often began a discussion about the prior episode as well, if not just a collection of chat-like posts.

That was the problem being solved by instituting that rule.

It had NOTHING to do with talking about an episode of a show that has aired, no matter where it has aired. The new interpretation is revisionist history.

Further, this forum does not consist of ONLY "official" episode discussion threads, such that there's simply no reason anyone should be scared of talking about an episode of any television show they've seen. THAT is the point of this forum. Even if there may be an "official" thread, whatever that means, it still does not preclude other threads that might discuss the episode or series from being created here.

Plus we have the introduction of TiVo in Australia/New Zealand, which will only increase discussion of non-US-televised programs.

Perhaps it should be altered to "not more than 1 hour before first official airing in official TiVo markets (past & present)".

That might also clear up the Doctor Who, Torchwood, Jekyll, Life On Mars, Robin Hood, Ashes To Ashes (when it airs) multiple post clutter, and invite UK members to the party.

But that's not fair to them and I for one would like them more involved in discussions outside the UK sub forum.
