Heads up for fans of "The Wire"... today's Amazon Gold Box deal is the box set for $72.49. It's a good price for all 5 seasons plus bonus "prequels".

    FYI,

I wonder if it will ever be on Blu-Ray. That is the only thing keeping my from buying now.

They were about 5 minutes long. There were three of them. One showed Omar as a young kid. The other was Prop Joe as a kid. I forget who the third one was. They were not that great compared to the series. I thought they were kind of cartoonish in the way they showed the characters as kids.

I couldn't verify the link either since it's blocked at work. Hopefully someone else can chime in. $50 seems like a crazy good deal for this.

I'm not familiar with e-bay tricks but the place says it ships from Pennsylvania. What other info do you need?

Just rewatched the series again over the last 2 months. Just as good as the first time. I should own this, but never watch DVDs anymore.

I did some googling about this and that seems to be the story. I read that the show was framed 16:9 for future proofing, but the producer preferred the show in 4:3. Also said that no 16:9 version exists in the public. It seems like it could happen, but who knows if it will.

I've never seen The Wire. I think I watched the very first episode and didn't like it. Hearing how much people love it, I plan to watch the entire series. The thought of a HD version possibly coming makes me want to wait. How long should I wait though? :)

I should just put HBO GO to use. It is supposed to be coming to videogame consoles. Maybe when that happens, I'll start watching it.

no. it says it's a region 1 (U.S.). It does not say there are 10 or more left anymore and it also now says over 30 sold when before it was 10 sold.

    IOW, going like hotcakes...

I takes a few episodes to really get rolling. Once it does, it's excellent viewing.
Don't wait. See it the way the director intended it to be seen.

They have been playing the whole series on DirecTV in HD (on the 101 channel or Audience or whatever they call their channel now). I think it is cropped though, I notice some weird stuff like the very top of peoples heads cut off sometimes. But it has been great to rewatch on the big screen.
