Exactly. And at every opportunity, these idiots have done the dumbest thing they could do. That's why it's so frustrating. Every thread about this show on any site includes lists of dumb things the characters are doing, and the dumb writing that goes into it. Driving old broken down RVs, riding loud motorcycles, sleeping in tents, etc. etc. etc.

But like I said, it's not a zombie show. It's Melrose Place in a mildly post-zombie world. Although, how post-zombie can it be when they've been at an apparently very safe farmhouse with running water and electricity for the last three episodes?

Herschel and his band of merry men invaded the previous occupants and took over the farm as their own. Which is why he is so itchy to see Rick and Co. shove off before they do the same.

This storyline reminds me of George Romero's Survival of the Dead. Two families in conlict over how to deal with zombies. One wants to kill them, the other wants to keep them "alive" in hopes of a cure.

One thing to remember - the writer's "rule" that these folks have no concept of "zombie." They have not read a zombie book or seen a zombie movie. So, they might not behave like we would (since all of us would handily survive a zombie apocalypse.)

They probably need to increase the "ever present zombie danger" level a bit, but I think that might be one of the points of the farm - that even in a relatively safe haven, you aren't safe. I also think that will change once they leave the farm.

I was expecting maybe the old man's wife or family members to be in there, zombified, but that was a pretty big collection of people. They must just throw them in there whenever they find one.

I guess zombies really are quiet unless someone gets really close. They didn't even make any noise when Glen rattled the doors. Do they have to actually see food before they get excited?

How come all the titles are stupid things Daryl says?

If you're going to have a dozen people all carrying guns, you have to have some discipline, for pete's sake. The no gun policy is looking better all the time. Or maybe no guns for anyone but me? ;)

I haven't read the graphic novels, but that makes a lot of sense.

Not sure how you missed it, but Hershel doesn't want them anywhere near the nice weatherproof building *right over there*. They are guests so they can either accede to his wishes, or take over the farm through force. I think a little sleeping in tents is not so bad given the alternative.

One other thing that struck me - yes, they are idiotic at times, but that gives them room to grow and change. I'm thinking now about some other situations later in the graphic novels which are similar, but different, and how the characters grow to handle things differently. Now, who knows where the TV show will end up, but having the crew become expert zombie hunters by the 10th episode might not be a recipe for success.

That wouldn't explain why the zombies are there. There would need to be more to it. e.g. the occupants slept in the barn and Herschel snuck a zombie in there with no real strategy in mind for how to kill all of the zombies afterwards.

I briefly entertained the notion that he's somehow turning the zombies into fuel for the generators, but then it seemed logistically absurd to think that they can kill and retrieve zombies one at a time.

I've always believed we would find zombies in that barn and that we will find out they are friends/family that they can't stand to kill and are waiting for a cure....which is supported by Hershel's speech about having faith that a cure will be found because mankind always finds a cure, eventually.

Does anyone else believe that Hershel is somehow deeply involved in what happened to cause the advent of the Zombies?

    Nope. At least... not me.

I think he has a hot daughter and a barn full of zombies. Other than that, he's not very interesting.
