When it gets to audience voting, then it will be just like American Idol or any other show that relies soley on public voting.

Honestly, looking at it now, the only difference between this and Idol is that the initial auditions for the on-air judges is blind and they don't send up total and compelte jokes just so we can all laugh at people who suck. The coaches/judges eliminating people is like the "hollywood" round in Idol. Then it goes to public vote.

I hope they can do something to differentiate themselves. I really enjoy the blind auditions and the judges bantering and such to try and recruit the singers.

Re: the final 16. The audience votes to save one person from each team and the judges decide who will be cut from their team. The finale will have one person from each team competing. I'm guessing the audience will make the final choice of the winner.

The issue with the blind auditions is that it can't last. At least, not the way they structured this show.

This is what I do for the Biggest Loser. I tried watching an episode live earlier this season and only made it about 15 minutes. Competition shows--especially two hour ones--are why Tivo exists.

I don't see how much different they can make it there. Like you said, the first part of the show is the judges trimming down the teams, but once it goes to "America's Vote", I don't see how they could spin that to make it different. It would be funny if just to be different they changed it so people vote for whoever they WANT to go home. They we could watch and laugh as the best contestants go first because the A.D.D. public wasn't paying attention and thought it was like Idol.

Anyway, I can't stand Idol (almost every time I see a clip of a performance on that show I cringe...that guy destroying "Harder to Breathe", and they being praised for it, being a fresh example). I only caught The Voice because I had recorded TBL before it so the tv was on channel 4 with a 30 minute buffer behind it, so I watched that part.

To me, all the promotion and press about how different the show is because it's based purely on voice is kind of pointless because that's ONLY for one round. The gimmick is kind of over after the audition episodes because after that, it's just a regular singing competition. I wish there was more they could have done w/ that concept because it's actually a cool idea, especially in an industry based purely on image (hence why Britney Spears still has a career).

Except that it is different. Like I mentioned before, the 'Americas vote' only determines which ONE person stays from each team. The coaches decide who goes, not just who got the least amount of 'Americas votes'.

Gotchya... didn't catch that. So the votes only save 1 person, then the judges pick from the rest. I guess that's cool. As the teams dwindle though, it's gonna have to go to a straight-up vote because if you end up with one person on each team, there is no other way.

But a Tivo doesn't do what I mean -- unless you're playing faster than realtime with closed captions on and can actually keep up. (I did that with my old TV for WWTBAM and Are you Smarter than a 5th grader -- when recorded on my S1.. since the digital recordings don't reliably actually go into FF on the first FF speed)

I mean using another recorder (XS32 for me), which plays faster than realtime WITH SOUND. So I can watch the less-enthralling bits of a show faster than realtime, then just watch the "useful" bits at regular speed.

Watched the first episode (faster than realtime for the non-performance bits, and FFed through a few country singers).. I haven't made a SP for the show, and most of the way through the show, thought about not even recording the second, even though I like the _concept_ of the show. But for once, the 'coming up on this season' info made me much more likely to actually give it a few more episodes. I don't even remember exactly what it was, but some of the mechanics of the competition sounded different, in an entertaining way.
