Exactly this...casting missed the mark on those two.
I don't know if it's casting or more in the writing/characterization of them. I think they are so over the top as to not be believable.
I'm still watching and enjoying. I do agree that the Michaela Watkins and Rob Corddry characters are not well written. The actors are great and could be playing very likeable characters, but obviously the writers/producers want them to be slapsticky loons.
It would be nice to see Wade get into a real relationship, but then that kind of kills the premise of the show. He's supposed to be "The Unicorn" that every single woman would fall all over herself to date. So they need to show us more of that.
I'd previously seen Michaela Watkins (Delia) in a comedy short included with modern/love in 7 short films*, and she was exactly the same person. A business woman instead of a doctor, but the same type of character overall. Never saw her on SNL but I'd be willing to bet there were similarities there too. I'm sure the Ballers guys bring consistent vibes with them too.
*Not the same as Modern Love.
I know her from Casual. Never knew she was on SNL.
Hah! I think Delia is hilarious. Her little asides and under the breath comments always crack me up. Forrest is also really funny. I mean of course they're ridiculous people but it's a sitcom for heaven's sake.
Running the snack stand at the soccer tournament was a riot. Maybe it makes me laugh because I've experienced that suburban parent lifestyle (I coached my kids' soccer teams too...)
I'm a huge Goggins fan but to me his character is the weakest on the show. The other couples are much funnier. I realize that Wade and his kids are supposed to be the "warm heart" of the show instead of the humor but as others have said, it's a little stale already.
I rewatched some eps from the beginning today.
I just want to know where he found the bereavement support group full of women in their 40s-50s. With wine.
Mine is mostly women in their 70s and men in their 80s but I'll switch if that's what it takes.
