Must be a low bar for ‘best new comedy’

I thought the 2nd episode was pretty weak. Weak man. Weak.

But I’ll stick with it a another week or two. Week.

Enjoyed the 2nd episode as much as the first. Writing & acting both good, well cast. Maya's sister was great.

Rob Corddry is the bright spot for punchlines but I almost started to get bored until Nicole Byer showed up. She's always hilarious.

Really liking this show so far. Of course it's very near my personal life situation, so I was predisposed to like it.

I love this show. Lots of heart. It almost has a Cougar Town vibe to it.

As much as I like Walton Goggins and his daughters, his friends are unbearable to me. If my friends tried to do to me what they do to him I'd get rid of them. I'm keeping the SP for now, but I may have to give it up because I really can't stand them.

This feels like Seinfeld with Walt being the straight man and the friends being the odd friends.

I never thought of it that way, but you may be onto something here. I never really liked Seinfeld all that much, nor for that matter most sitcoms. Mostly because they all feel forced/contrived to me.

I think this is a pretty good new show. Maybe the best new sitcom (for what that's worth). I don't expect sitcom friends to act like real friends, so it doesn't bother me when they do annoying things. Anyway, these people have been friends for many years: I wouldn't toss out such good friends just because of one well-meaning overstep. Especially when they'd been there for me for a year.

My favourite part of this show was how Michelle couldn't recognize any of the guys on the romance show. Very subversive... and funny.

This last episode was the best of the season for me. I lived that Wade knew and was trolling Forrest. That's the sort of interaction I can see in real life. SP stays for now.

What we always comment on when watching is just how much time these people spend together- I don't think anyone those ages in real life spend that much time together. But, of course, there would be no show if they didn't- lol...…...

No, I'm not a widower. That's why it's "very near" rather than exactly like my own situation.

Right? IRL they'd see each other at the soccer games and other events involving everyone's kids, and during pick-ups and drop-offs for other kid activities, but anything else would be a stretch.

I assumed they were visiting constantly after his wife died, and they just sort of fell into the habit.

In the last episode a couple of the friends agreed between themselves that they absolutely had to influence his choice of a new partner, because the new partner would be with them all the time just like the last one.

Yes! I couldn't place it but yes, that's the vibe. The writing and cadence to the episodes are very similar to Cougar Town. That said, so far, I find meh. It's got potential and the characters are mostly likeable, but it feels like it's the same thing each week. Maybe when the characters are fleshed out more will we get something different. Still, there's such a dearth of decent comedies on broadcast TV, this stands out as better than most right now.

It struck me watching this that a lot of new shows this year are about eligible widowers.

Walton Goggins' teeth are getting to me, though...

I think like many good comedies, it takes time to find their footing. Look at how Cougar Town started and also Parks and Rec. :)
