I think Lindbergh's wife mentioned that he needed to be removed from office before the special election. Thus they went with Ford.

I didn't see The Wire, although it universally gets raves. We have watched the 1st two seasons of The Deuce and liked it but haven't gotten to season 3 yet.

On the list of shows in his Wikipedia page, the only ones I liked were this one and The Deuce. But sadly, Simon falls into the category of developing intricate characters that take a long time to develop. I usually don't like when that happens. But that's me. I've seen episodes of Treme, The Wire, Gen Kill and quit all of those because I just couldn't get into it, moved too slowly. And that was the case here to some extent. I think the reason why Simon took on this project is because it felt very close to his heart, but really he wrote the first few episodes like his other series, but rushed through the last 2 and that's not usually how he writes.

I actually didn't have a problem with the pacing or character development - it's just the lack of a proper ending that ruined it for me. I didn't see any of those other shows either!

First 5.5 eps great, last 1/2 of last ep lame.

Reading that he did this to "make a point" is annoying, tell a real story, if you want to make a point make the point, don't leave it open ended as a "cautionary tale" lame as hell

I concur with the general sentiment here. Great series with a sh*tty ending. I've never been a fan of "The lady or the tiger" type endings.

If they weren't going to stick with the book ending they could have taken the premise and made it into a multi season series imo.

The premise was the story of the Levin family in an alternative history setting. Not much more to expand on that story.
Expanding the alternative Nazi history premise has been done with The Man in High Castle.
I found The Plot Against America slow at times, and think it would have been better as a 4 hr 2 parter.

While I enjoyed it, I think it could have been a great 2 hour movie.

What did Alvin and his cohorts do? Were they setting up false navigational beacons to send the Spirit off course?
