Oh, I completely agree about his low brow sense of humor and that's why I don't enjoy his TV shows or movies.

But I DO enjoy hearing him speak on topics in an intelligent & humorous way, and am also impressed with his singing talents.

Ah yes, Red Dwarf USA. The very notion still gives me nightmares...

Down Periscope in Space, or, McHale's Starfleet, it could the greatest thing ever, or it could be the worst thing ever. But the trailer is amusing enough that I'm looking forward to it.

McFarlane is known to be a huge Star Trek fan so this may actually be a labor of love for him although I suspect the humor will be more "A Million Ways to Die in the West" than Galaxy Quest.

But that trailer looks better than the latest Star Trek Discovery one.

I'm definitely in for this one. That trailer was great. Definitely better than the new Star Trek Discovery one.

Did anybody catch the "Admiral Halsey" line (Paul McCartney song) reference in the Orville preview? lol.

Nah, we are talking about Seth MacFarlane comedy here. I'm sure the reference is to the Admiral Halsey in McCartney's song.

"The Orville" is essentially a remake of the British program "Hyperdrive", down to the character Diplomatic Officer Chloe Alice Teal being the captain's love interest/problem and also being freakishly taller than he is.

Just saw a Fox ad: Season 2 of "The Orville" starts December 30 (for a 2018 tax deduction, lol?).

Will be glad to see it back. :) Love the 'stache.

I was surprised that Fox renewed it. They had a great show with Firefly and they dumped it and will not allow the rights to be bought by any one.

Love it, looking forward to its return. We've been going through Deep Space 9 for the first time and were laughing that the doctor in The Orville was a character in DS9.

Actually, it's because (choose one or both: Fox, Seth MacFarlane) wants it to have national football coverage as a lead-in. I am assuming that the episode will air immediately after the second game of Fox's NFL doubleheader in all time zones, just as the first two episodes of season 1 did. (In the Pacific time zone, it will air twice - once right after the game, and again at 8:00 Pacific.)

I am also assuming that Fox will move the show to a different day of the week after the season premiere, although I wouldn't put it past Seth to "ask" for the Sunday 9-10 time slot (moving Bob's Burgers back to 7:30, which isn't a problem time slot once football ends, and Family Guy to 8:30), especially as Rel is crashing and burning ratingswise.

The Orville had good ratings; Firefly wasn't close. That makes a difference.

In today's world of lots of people using streaming subscriptions, a high quality library is crucial. Some excellence must be mixed into popularity to give a library longevity. It's hard for short sighted folks to invest for the long term. It's the eternal story of SF TV.

Even funnier, she was the police captain on Castle for a couple of seasons. It didn't hit me right away, and then one day I looked at her and thought, "That's a big step." "A very big step."

I remember reading an advance review of Firefly and deciding to skip it. Turns out after viewing the original pilot, Fox had insisted on creating a dumbed-down action episode and shuffling the order around to make that one the premier. Only ten years later did I discover what a gem that show really was. The movie is great too. Orville is fun but nowhere near in the same class.

Ah yes, "Kasidy Yates"...freighter captain and love interest of Ben Sisko. From an alternate universe if I'm not mistaken.
