I'm really beginning to like this show. I think this was the best episode so far, although it was pretty predictable, and based on a very common plot.

    What do you guys think?

I like it. Probably my favorite new show so far. It's like Star Trek with some goofy jokes thrown in here and there to keep it light, but not a full on spoof.

I thought it was odd how defensive all the Orville crew members acted when they encountered the people on that ship. It was like they were trying to pick a fight.

Was that Liam Neeson as Dorahl? Maybe now we finally know what his “special set of skills” entails.

Pretty good episode, but as mentioned kind of a recycled plot. And the villian was way heavy-handed.

One of the cameos was particularly fun... Stan Lee as the distress call voice. At least it sounded like him. And did the guy who was the head of the underground make some appearances on Trek series? He sure looked familiar. And of course Liam Neeson.

And I LOL'd at the victory BOOM! Lamar gave after blowing up the attacking ship, and the little one after he sat down.

He has been on many different shows over the years. Usually smaller roles. His IMDB doesn't have any Trek credits.

I always remember him from Space: Above and Beyond, which was on Fox in the mid-90s.

That's probably what I'm remembering him from, Sci-Fi wise. Thanks.

I agree that the plot is a derivation of Asimov's "Nightfall" down to the same Emerson quote mentioned in the Wikipedia entry that is given as the inspiration of the story.

This ep had a very ‘For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky’ vibe.
Why do they give the scrawny little woman super powers? She doesn’t have the body mass for it. They already have Issac as a faux Data. Why not use him for all the heavy lifting?
I guess Liam Warhol’s special skill set doesn’t include being able to fix engines that he built.
This show still feels like Family Guy set in space with humans.
Wow, James Morrison - Kemka (Space: Above and Beyond), sure got old.
I’m so happy that the Fox Now app has a reduced commercial mode. I love it.

I suspect in the original (sitcom) conception of the show, they thought it would be funnier...

Dorahl was only the captain, it's only the current descendants that believe he was the creator.

That kind of clears up why the kid asked "What's night?". The writers didn't establish the habitat never went dark, which you'd generally call night.

When they first boarded the hugh ship and walked across the bridge, did anyone think they were paying homage to Forbidden Planet?

The “special skills” comment was referring to Neeson’s famous speech from Taken. It didn’t have anything to do with the people on the ship believing he was a god.

The bottomless chasm is pretty standard setpiece in a lot of sci-fi films/TV. FP may have done it first, but I doubt it was a direct homage.

Liked the episode a lot. Definitely an improvement over "For the World is Hallow"

Glad he's still getting work- I haven't seen him since 24. Morrison and Tucker Smallwood (Commodore Ross) were the best things about S:AAB.

It made me think of Babylon 5...War Without End, I think, the ancient base on the planet below.

Isn't that where they found Zathras? I miss that guy. Science Fiction can always use more Zathras.
