I think this is a pretty good group of contestants.

I like Whitney, Jeff, and Orchid so far.

I'm surprised that Howie wouldn't admit to much help (if any) from Jyll, as it appeared that she gave him a lot of help. Although, a lot of that could have just been editing.

Penny seems like a real piece of work. Not liking her at all so far.

I'm not sad to see Howie gone.

For a radio guy, Howie didn't seem to do as well as I would have thought. And if you can't cook, then you don't have a shot here really.

Is it just me, or does one of the contestants look just like Rachel Ray?

I totally picked Howie to go home first. I love when I'm right. What a needy ******. When he went into chef mode he thought the other two were his assistants. Then he denied it.

Fashion-model-girl-who-cries is a hoot to watch. I hope they keep her around for a while, but she has no shot.

And Penny. They'll keep her around just for the drama.

Glad they gave Vic Vegas another shot.

I can't remember most of the names yet, but I believe it is Whitney who I really like. I like some of the others too but it's too soon to remember names. Tried to find the cast list on FN.com but couldn't.

Glad that Howie guy got the boot. I couldn't stand him. What a total jerk he was to the girl who tried to help him so much for the sake of the team. Glad she learned her lesson and won't let herself be used like that again and glad it didn't bite her by being the one let go. I'd have been ticked if she got the ax.

Same goes for the 'sexy food' lady. Couldn't stand her from about the first five minutes. She needs to go but methinks she will be kept a while for the drama.

I think we'll find out if she really has learned her lesson or not. She might be one of people that just can't help themselves by helping others. I hope she did learn her lesson.

    Agreed.

    Thank Ya, GoHalos!

So, it IS Whitney that I like. I think she is so cute and very pleasant to watch. She doesn't seem to try too hard. If my usual record holds, however, she will probably be one who doesn't make the cut.

I kind of like Alicia, if she toughens up a bit. I wonder why she is called A-lisha and if that is actually the way it is supposed to be pronounced. I've known lots of Alicias and it has always been pronounced Ah-LEE-cee-uh...or at least Ah-LEE-shuh. Anyway, pet peeve, that's all...

Jeff is cute and Orchid seems to have it all going on already.

I'm ok with most of them except that I didn't like Howie...don't like Penny...and don't like Juba. Well, I think Juba is attractive and can cook but don't really think he will be able to develop a relationship with the camera.

I'm neutral on most of the rest of them. I feel like I've seen Vic Vega on something else, but cannot place it.

Penny rubs me the wrong way like a few chefs I have seen on Chopped that are self-proclaimed sexy or sensuous chefs. They all seem like the type that need to try and convince us of that by constantly telling us they are sexy and know how to be sexy with a fennel! She's got nothing on Giada who drips sexuality (uh, you know what I mean) but doesn't spend a moment trying to convince us.

That one chick did remind me of Rachael Ray too. One RR is enough, so if she wins, they may have to let RR go.

Orchid (or-kid, not or-chid) started reminding me too much of an Arti-Party. One of those is enough for me as well.

Alicia was near the bottom of my list at first, but I'm pulling for her to last longer than Penny after the treatment she got.

I enjoyed watching Alton working with them on their promo's. Not an easy job with some of these people.

Penny is awful (and not even remotely sexy).

Alicia is awful, too -- her crying jag when told to speak audibly was hilarious! What does she think, they are going to put her on national TV to mumble softly in front of the camera?

This show is really poorly edited, though. I usually don't notice that stuff, but it's so bad here I can't help it -- things like showing a contestant saying "I'm worried because the other people on my team are weak" before they've shown the footage where they announce the teams. Or in the judgment room, showing the teams moving into certain positions before the judges tell them to.

He reminds me of another Food Network personality: Iron Chef Michael Symon.

I really llike Michael Symon (in fact he was my pic on Next Iron Chef that season from the very beginning), but that Vic Vegas guy was on some other cooking type show sometimes in the last year or so. I just cannot remember what it was.

Fogelson described Penny as an empowered woman. Is that the new term for *****? I wanted to like her, especially after the scene of her running into the market in a tank top. But then she opened her mouth again.

Here is her audition tape for the show. It's obvious what got her on the show. Check the video at about 1:35.:D

I just watched the last season of this on Hulu.
Do you ever notice how they always make these people put on cheesy smiles and act all door to door salesman like? A lot of the established don't do that, including Bobby Flay. I wish they would stop it (and the fake heart warming stories they have to tell too). I like it when the cooks act like themselves, then if they smile or tell a story, it works.

I'll call the winner right now: Jeff Mauro

You can already count out these people after one episode:
    Alicia Sanchez
    Juba Kali
    Justin Davis
    Penny Davidi
    Vic "Vegas" Moea

The second that one guy called himself an amateur he was finished. Another thing, this isn't the first season. How any of these nitwits can go onto the show without a clear point-of-view is a mystery to me.

So glad the "frat boy" is gone. I am really liking Whitney and Orchid. I also like Vic if he could tone it down a bit.
