We have season passes to record syndicated Law and Order and CSI shows. The problem is they broadcast about 20 of these shows a day. Every time I look at my Tivo It is recording one of these. I'd like for it to only record a couple a day. I changed from a season pass to a Manual record from a certain channel at a certain time. Only problem with this is that if Law and Order is not on it will still record the channel.

Is it possible to specify a Season Pass but tell it to only record a couple of shows a day? I'd rather the Tivo use the other hours to give me suggestions.

As I see it, your options are:
    Manual recordings
using the Keep at most x episodes option
removing the excess items from the to do list on a regular basis

Unfortunately, using Keep At Most will have it keep recording new shows and then discarding others. If the SP priority is high enough this will keep other things from recording.

Setting up the keep at most to, say, 2 and also enabling "Keep until I delete" might do what you want I think. Of course you would have to delete what is recorded before more would be recorded.

That's an interesting thought. I'll setup a queue of 3 shows and control the recordings by deleting the ones I've seen. This way it will record at most 3 shows in one day.

nope use KEEP at most of two and Keep Until I delete and then it will not record more than two. ETA - Like RoyK said :) .

Now if new shows are an issue what I really do is
have a season pass high enough to get the first run.
set it to keep all episodes and Keep until to whichever is best for your list.

then down at the bottom beneath all other shows ZI have a law & order wishlist for repeats and first run. the season pass takes care of first run and thus I can set the wishlist to keep however many I want. Since the first run is getting all new ones I have no concern if some of the repeats get written over by a wishlist that is not interferring with any other recoridngs

since it's on ALL THE TIME essentially, just put it at the very bottom of your list, and do either keep until delete or not, but it won't bump other shows

and keep at most x episodes of course, not all/25 or whatever!

You can list the upcoming episodes and pick and choose the episodes you want to record. You would need to do it every week or so though.

    I was intending to say
using the Keep at most x episodes option and the Keep until I delete feature

which has since been mentioned by others

    Do this:

Create a season pass to record only first run shows. Place this as high up in your priority ranking as you want the new shows to be. Set the Keep At Most count to whatever you want, and perhaps set Keep Until I Delete.

Create a second season pass (or wishlist for LAW ORDER) to record repeats. Place this at the bottom of your ranking. Set the Keep At Most count to 2.

What will happen is that your higher-ranked "First Run" season pass will guarantee that you get any new shows, and that you keep them as long as you want.

The bottom-ranked "Repeats" season pass (or wishlist) will only record when no other higher-priority shows are being recorded. And the Keep At Most=2 will leave a lot of room for any suggestions that get recorded when nothing else is being recorded.

problem is -- the networks are BAD at marking 'first run' or 'repeat' correctly....

If all of the new and old episodes are on one channel, you can not set up a second SP. You'd have to set one SP for new eps only and an auto-record wishlist to record all episodes with the arwl set to a lower priority.
