I watched the premier episode of The Killing, I liked what I saw in terms of the show, but the video quality is just horrible, pixelated and grainy anytime the camera has to move so I haven't watched any of them since the premier because they really just look terrible.

I haven't seen anyone else comment about this so I'm curious if I'm the only one.

I'm recording the show from AMCHD on an S3, I have Verizon FIOS. The last aired episode Undertow is listed as taking 3.58 GB. I checked a few other in the series and they all come in 3-4 GB.

Checking other hour long HD shows I see them as 6-9 GB.

So it seems to me that for whatever reason AMCHD in my area is horribly over compressed, dunno why that is, FIOS is usually known for having very good HD and I don't know why they would choose to over compress this one show/channel. If this were an AMC issue I think I would have seen people complaining about this issue a lot around here as it just looks awful.

I haven't looked at the file size, and I deleted last night's episode after watching, but I can tell you that I've always been disappointed with the quality of AMC HD on Comcast here.

I haven't noticed anything but now, after reading this thread, I'll probably spend the rest of the episodes looking for defects. Thanks. :)

HD for this series is not crisp. I don't recall other AMC series being this bad.

Well what I feared was going to happen did/is happening.

They are doing the same thing with Breaking Bad and it looks just awful.

This is so ridiculous. I have to download a copy of the show to get a better quality experience than watching it in "HD"

I don't get AMC in HD off DirecTV. So, I have to download everything off usenet if I want to see it in HD. I don't notice poor quality in those downloads.

At least you guys get AMC HD, as Hoffer says, we don't on DirecTV

But, the 720p versions I download on the internet look great though! :D

It's time DIRECTV adds aMC HD. They keep adding more and more premium channels that air the same damn movies over and over, like HBO 17 and Cinemax 37; it's high time they add that and while they're at it, BBC America HD and IFC HD to name a few others.

I was just reading about AMC HD in the FIOS forum on DSL Reports. It is here:

And a quote from a post, they also discuss bitrates:
