I don't mean the feeling of the book (and I haven't watched the show yet) just that the book takes place pretty much entirely on a sinlge planet. It doesn't cover as much ground as the others. Well technically I guess it covers a lot more ground. Less space?

Slowly working my way through season 4. Just saw the island blow up, I sure hope I get to see robot Miller in a coming episode :). On the other hand, I found the debates as cringe worthy as the debates the democrats are having. Almost fast forwarded through them.

Just finished the final two episodes tonight. I liked the season although since I've read the books I was prepared for the setting and plot. I was certainly sorry to see Ashford go: he's been a favorite of mine.

I'll say I definitely was drawn from episode to episode so I think it did a very good job and I wasn't disappointed. I'm also looking forward to next season, based on the books.

I binged this over three days and really liked this season. Well, except for the fact that my girl Bobbie became a criminal. But it looks like she'll redeem herself next season.

A question about the scene when Ashford's team of three boarded the terrorist's ship. I remember the big guy getting shot in the head but I don't recall what happened to the woman. I assume she got waxed too. Ashford didn't think his raid out too well.

Avasarala makes me laugh when she throws f-bombs around.

Burn Gorman plays a-hole characters very well.

I seemed sorrier that Amos had to kill his girlfriend than he did but she was an idiot who chose the wrong side.

Not going to read this thread until I finish binging it. I'm halfway through ep 4 and this show is absolutely fantastic. I'm taking tomorrow off from work because there's no way I'm going to go to work before I finish the season!

I am so happy Amazon bought it and brought it back. ok...back to binging the show!

I've got one episode left. Liking the season overall. I'm glad they found a way to keep the other characters involved that weren't in Book 4. Amos is the best, really like that character.

However, it just feels like they've gone a bit overboard on the profanity. At times it feels like Deadwood in space. Sure, Chrisjen is gonna swear like a sailor, but it just feels a bit out of character for everyone else to be doing the same. Feels like every time you turn around, an F-bomb is getting dropped. I find it taking me out of the story. Admittedly, it's been a while since I read Book 4, but still...

For myself I got the complete opposite feeling with Chrisjen's swearing. Maybe its just the actress, Shohreh Aghdashloo does such a great job with the upperclass business/society woman it just seems out of place

Edit: Fix name spelling (I really mutilated it)

I really, really missed the swearing during the Syfy run...it seemed like the character was just wrong. In the books, she is so delightfully vulgar that even the toned-down version in the Netflix season was an improvement for me over the neutered Syfy Chrisjen.

Heh. When you think about it, at least 90% of the characters in the show actually are sailors, or at least the future equivalent of it. Honestly I didn't even notice most of the swearing, other than Chrisjen's, but I think more swearing is definitely more realistic than less for the people the show is following.

That's the whole point, to me, and what makes it so great. It's always surprising, and very funny, to hear her go off like that. And, if you haven't read the books, it's very in-character for her as well.

Well, I LOVED the entire season. I didn't even notice the swearing. Not joking: was there really swearing? if so, it must've been natural...

The one thing that bugged me was the General resigning and blaming whats-her-name (Alasavara?). He gave her 2 options, she chose 1 of them. Then he acted like she forced the raid option over his objections or something!

For a minute, I thought the mom was going to stay on Roci and become their medic, so I was surprised she was back on the planet with her husband.

I was bummed out by Ashford getting spaced. I thought David Strathairn did a great job with the character and would love to see him back. It's a total departure from anything I've seen him in before. There was definitely a little sexual tension between him and Drummer in their final scene together. It would appear that Miller is gone as well. I hope they plan to continue with a season 5.

Ashford was one of my favorite characters, he made the belters endearing.

Every once and a while you either just want to stab either the automated title generator that includes things not in the article, or the poor human who has to write a paragraph with no facts just because the title said so.

That's good news, although not unexpected. Since so many people have made comparisons of the many characters to the books I'm intrigued enough to check them out. Right now there are eight volumes to the Expanse saga with possibly more on the way. Let's hope the TV series follows suit. This is quality TV at its finest.

One more book. The plan has always been nine. Supposedly sometime in 2020 (they couldn't go much longer without all the main characters dying of old age).

I searched for the list of books for The Expanse and there appears to be even more than the nine you described:

    James S.A. Corey's-The Expanse series
The Expanse is a series of science fiction novels by James S. A. Corey, the joint pen name of authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. The first novel, Leviathan Wakes, was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2012. The series as a whole was nominated for the Best Series Hugo Award in 2017.
    0.1 Drive
    0.25 The Churn
0.5 The Butcher Of Anderson Station
    01 Leviathan Wakes
    02 Caliban's War
    02.5 Gods Of Risk
    03 Abaddon's Gate
    04 Cibola Burn
    05 Nemesis Games
    05.5 The Vital Abyss
    06 Babylon's Ashes
    06.5 Strange Dogs
    07 Persepolis Rising
    08 Tiamat's Wrath

I assume the first three books in the list are precursors to the series with three additional books as an addendum to the series.

The books are bigger novels, the novelettes are shorter works. You missed the new novelette: Auberon (recently published). There are also some comics I believe.

Yeah, the novellas are all a fair bit shorter.

Note that the TV series has been covering at least the basic plot points of the novellas Drive, The Butcher, and Gods of Risk.

Whatever happened to Anderson Dawes and Fred Johnson? Do they become this unimportant in the books as well?
Drummer mentions them both in one sentence in an early episode, almost as an aside.
