I agree that Leila is destined to free Simon, but I know that how she will free Simon will make me roll my eyes.

This pretty much sums up my opinion of this show. It is starting to make all the stuff in 24 look totally believable (I used that comparison since it's by some of the same production staff). We still don't even have a good reason WHY we have a Sean character. The whole thing with Agent Lee also seemed kind of poorly written. We'll go with you, then double cross? Leila looks totally confused (well she looks like that always), like she's a zombie or something. And yeah, instead of shooting her, lets just light the house on fire around her, giving her a chance to escape. A bullet to the head would work so much better. It seemed like the cliffhanger on the old batman TV show.

The whole show centers around this initial act of stupidity.

Here's how it should have gone:

The writers have tried to paint the President and Sophia as being two good people pushed into opposite sides of a war with each other, but the only reason they are in this war is because of their horrible diplomacy skills. Granted, a lot of real wars probably started this way too, but I would hope that the U.S. and a more evolved civilization like Sophia's would be better at it than what was portrayed in The Event.

There still could have been conflict by having Thomas working behind Sophia's back to bring their people to Earth. Plus, there is the whole group of people behind the plot to assassinate the President. If Dempsey is supposed to be a "guardian" of Earth, then the only reason he needs to now defend it is because of his assassination attempt, which kicked off this whole mess. For someone who seems to have some insight about the future, I'm not sure how he didn't see that one coming.

I'm guessing it involves distracting a bunch of sleepers with a mountain lion, as they're trying to kill Simon by poking him with a blunt spoon.

    I am with you there.
I don't even know who or what Jason Ritter is chasing after anymore other than the fact that he is running around all the time.

Well, he's on the run (he's wanted for the murder on the cruise boat and Dempsey's people want him). Now that whats her face and her little sister are supposedly safe he can either lay low or try to clear his name. Since Dempsey framed him for murder (who knows why to begin with) Sean is going after him.

So true. I actually recognized his "scrambled" voice on the phone when he helped Simon escape.

The problem is, they spent the first several episodes of the show setting up the fact that the aliens are basically good and don't want to harm humans and have integrated themselves nicely without harming anyone. Meanwhile, the US government has been shown to be keeping secrets, imprisoning innocent aliens, etc. And now we're suddenly supposed to side with the President when he irrationally sends the military after these aliens who mean no harm to the US and are only trying to get away from being unjustly imprisoned?
    Agreed. Seems the obvious choice.
They tried to do the classic TV writing trope of making an "everyman" be the center of the plot so the audience would have someone to root for. Unfortunately, the "President vs. the Aliens" plot is semi-interesting, while the "Sean Walker and Leila run for their lives while looking for Leila's sister" plot was excruciatingly boring. The writers totally miscalculated what part of the story people would actually want to see.

Here's a thought. What if the man Dempsey ordered to do the killing is secretly working against him? So he "kills" her in a way that she can make an escape while still making it look like he tried to kill her.

    Nah, don't think so.

Maybe the building had to be burned down for other reasons. The man was just trying to save a bullet.:) Dempsey spending at lot of $$$. Got to find ways to save.

Don't laugh. This explanation makes more sense then anything else you can come up with. OK maybe the guy likes Vikci and wants to think he's giving her a sporting shot.

I think the run for their lives plot has BECOME boring.

The pilot and first few episodes the killing of the mom and him being blamed for the murder on the boat was actually quite interesting and on equal footing with the plane disappearing and the aliens - but as someone said - it seems - to me anyway - that morphed into finding the kid sister - so now that he's still looking for who framed him - I don't give a frak. (and where would i be without BSG and the word "frak".)

Isn't that exactly what Vicki did with the VP way back when?

This show is a flashback to Flash Forward. :) By this point we didn't care about anything other than seeing how everything aligns to bring us to the (anti)climactic event. There is was the date of the FF, here it's The Event.

So, if everyone met at the church, who were the people coming out of the houses when the bus teleported into the middle of the street? Just another stupid continuity flaw. :(

At this point, I'm assuming the Event is a giant wormhole opening over Earth with 2 billion aliens coming out. The way things are going, that will be a cliffhanger and the series will be canceled.

Who said it was everyone who met at the church? Remember when they got the text and the people who had Leila and her sister were contemplated going to the meeting or not?

Also, we know that there were more than a couple of hundred of aliens integrated? http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=8452234#post8452234

And here's the other thing that's annoying me.

These aliens are from another galaxy and yet Earth is the only place they can relocate to?
Do the writers even realize how many stars there are in the Milky Way Galaxy alone?

200 Billion at the low estimate!

How many potential planets would that be?
