I think the point was that being burned so badly is what turned him into the hard-hearted paranoid type is now. He's deliberately worked on being un-fool-able and prides himself on it, which is why the mole being high up in his organization really shook him. Oh, and I would say that 14 years qualifies as "a long time" :p

You're assuming that they didn't just cover it up. "Tragic accident at demolition site", etc. There's no point in locking down the city and causing a panic when a) the perps could have teleported anywhere, b) there's no reason to expect an immediate followup "attack", and c) there's nothing you can do to stop them anyway.

I'll have to look it up, but yes. That's how the government figured out they were "aliens" way back in the '40s when they were first found. He did say the differences were subtle, but they must be distinct enough to rule out simple birth-defects, etc. in order for the gov't to have made that determination.

Remember that the dog barked at her, they can obviously tell that something's different about them.

Sorry. Star Trek "Assignment: Earth" (1968). A human (code named Gary Seven) has been taken to an alien world to train in their advanced technologies and return to Earth to serve humanity and assure its future destiny. As he beams to Earth from a distant planet, he's accidently caught in the E's transporter, and, well, wackiness ensues.

Anyway, that's what I was alluding to, that these Vs may be descendants of humans whisked away to another planet in a similar fashion, since they have similar DNA.

Teri Garr was also in that episode. But I digress ...

She was, as well as Robert Lansing as G-7. This was originally written as a pilot, but it didn't sell and was co-opted by Trek.
