That means either these people don't have "followers" that will actually follow them to traditional media or Neilsen does a really poor job of tracking them. Probably a little bit of both.

That is surprising in a way. You'd think the contestants would have flogged the race on their respective mediums and their fans would have tuned in to see them. I wonder if the +N tracking will show a larger bump: those youtubers probably don't do appointment TV :p

It could be an interesting cast. Lots of enthusiasm and different than normal in that many of the teams already know each other, or at least know of each other. If they make it far enough the dancer/choreographer couple should find a challenge that's right up their alley.

Has there ever been a non-elim on the first leg? That took me by surprise.

I remember at least once before, when the two professional poker player girls came in last on the first leg and were spared. That was probably about 10 seasons ago.

I have no idea who these people are and my expectations are low, but I found it to be a reasonable start to the season. Every team seemed to have at least one person with lots of energy, which isn't always the case.

I think I'm going to love whoever it was that encouraged, "Shovel that dirt!"

This was my exact thought, I think Amazing Race choose YouTubers just to get a boost in ratings from all their viewers. Maybe they saw a spike in ratings when they had the YouTubers from the previous season and thought this will be a great way to improve ratings.

Race 18 - Unfinished Business had a "keep racing" ending to the first leg, so it was technically a non-elimination (but the last place team wasn't required to do a Speed Bump on the next leg).

Race 19 also had a non-elimination first leg. The last place team was required to do a Speed Bump on the second leg (and were not eliminated). There was a double elimination on the second leg of Race 19.

I noticed no talk of speed bump and no discussion on prize for 1st.

Wow, lighten up. It sounds like you went in prepared to hate the everything about this season so it was a self fulfilling prophecy.

Like others, I did not know any of these people. There have been far less likable teams, in fact there was no team I even disliked after one episode, eve though several seemed clueless.

Oh, and I might have to actually follow Zack King. His stuff is looks fantastic.

The team in last was so happy it was non-elim that the girl immediately said, "We'll be happy to do a speed bump in the next leg," or something like that.

As for the prize, I heard that there was a cash prize, but it wasn't mentioned since it wasn't sponsored.

Not a fan of the social media aspect of it but hopefully that won't be emphasized as much as the race goes on.

Especially not a fan of a first leg non elim

I think I read somewhere that the non-elims are sometimes caused by issues producers deem outside their control that affect the race, so perhaps something occured off camera that they felt was unfair to the racers.

No mention of a prize for winning nor the Express Pass. It was odd.

I don't see Dad and daughter (Scott and Blair) lasting long, he seems like a weak racer. But I could look at Blair 24/7. :)

And her attitude was great with her dad.

I had to laugh when she said something like her dad was amazing or something like that, and then they show him bumbling around outside looking for dropped pieces.

The Alabama kid... Cole I think? He just annoyed me too much with his over the top screechy persona. I think he was the one yelling at the mariachi band something like "WHO'S NOT PLAYING!!" Ahhhhh... it was like nails on chalkboard. No one is going to tell you that! It's not funny! Stop!!! I'm guessing it's part of his video persona, but I don't know... I've never seen them. He reminds me of the male half of the other YouTube team they had before. Joey?

I was confused as to how they couldn't hear the drums in the cave, but maybe they were playing quietly.

I have always suspected that there is a rule that the racers have to wait until all racers on their flight have cleared Customs. I wouldn't be surprised if a producer is past customs holding the teams.

I found the entire episode frenetic and noisy. Much more so than regular TAR. I think they amped everything up to keep the attention of the youtube viewers. I literally had a headache by he end of the show, so I'm hoping it tones down. If not I may bail on this season as well.

Did anyone else notice that when one of the teams finished a task (I think it was the end of the Great Bulls of Fire task), he hummed the little music sting that always plays at that point of the show, and then the sting played immediately right after? I thought that was fun. And shows that team (or at least that one member of the team) are huge fans of TAR. It's always good when they cast true fans on the show.

I did notice that. I thought it was cute.

I have no idea who any of these people are. I don't have any favorites yet, but it's still very early.
