I would have probably climbed down the rope ladder. Since I actually have experience climbing heights (antenna towers) it would be easy for me.

TAR just isn't doing it for me anymore, but I'll probably watch this one to see how it goes.

I know they have constraints, but I just wish they'd do TAR in HD. :(

I was pissed off during the first 6 minutes of AR then finally closed captions started working. I checked the deaf blog and there were some complaining about the first 6 minutes without closed captions. So I missed all the intros for each play and why they're in the game. Seeing some of posts here "Football play cheated on wife", etc, I didn't know that.

I didn't enjoy last night's show very much and rarely enjoy the few few episodes of a new season. Once they start whittling down the teams and can focus more on fewer teams, it gets interesting.

Like Survivor, the literal title of the show changes each season. If you were counting on Tivo picking it up from last season's Season Pass then that won't work. This one is "The Amazing Race 13".

We referred to the gaming guys as "Team Mythbusters" as they reminded us so much of those guys on the Discovery show. Like them, hope they go far.

Can't stand the NY couple already. She is too needy and he is too controlling. Don't tell me I can't talk on the way down but you can! No way! Plus, sounds like she is the breadwinner in the family but he wants the control. And from the preview, she has issues.

Sorry to see Team Hippie go as I think they would have been fun to watch.

Don't understand the hating on Team Spangler. I don't see any creepy Blake/Paige thing going on. This is probably the most time they have spent together in a long time since she is in TX and he is in NY. Hope they go far in the race as well.

Just so glad to have TAR back!! Hope the pre-show articles are true in that they will be using more official "clues" instead of just directions to the next place. Make the contestants actually use their brains to figure out the clues.

She's from Texas, so it's very possible she's named after Bart Starr

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I didn't know Bart Starr had any connection to Texas.

Also did she grow up in Texas or move to Texas? She is an ex-Cowboy cheerleader and is only 21.

The reason he told her that was because she'd stop moving when she was talking.

I wonder how the safety line handlers would have reacted if you stepped off of the cargo net and just used your hands to pull yourself down?

When did they show footage from the pit stop? Or did you mean the barracks where they slept? That wasn't a pit stop. If you meant the acutal pit stop, they often show some footage when other teams get to the mat at the same time.

Team Hippies: We need more tie dye.

I suspect that if someone fell off the cargo net or tried to rappel down using the safety line, they would have been told to go back up and do it again the right way.

every sentence during challenges starts with, "honey, you know i love you, but..." or something similiar... like he's aware that he's going to sound like a bossy a-hole.

on the one hand, it's a sound strategy to keep things calm... on the oher hand, it's annoying, makes him sound like an uber-needy unmanly man.

yeah.. that football's player's ex is an annoying b... and i'll say it first... she looks like a Dr 90210 reject.

i like how the divorcees' are embracing their divorceehood... it's so brave... i hope they go far... eh... who am i kidding.. they are HAWT.:D

Terance is going to be entertaining. He gets annoyed when people don't speak english, wants Sarah's full attention and tells her to stop outrunning him. I think early in the show he was referred to as a "free spirit". I think he's more of a baby.

I already hate the NY team as well. He's a complete ******. He says he gets paid to train runners, and then he complains because his girlfriend is running faster than he is? He complains because his girlfriend is trying to be nice to people rather than showering him with attention? He complains because she wants to talk while climbing down the net? What a tool. He's the last person I would consider to be a free spirit.
I was totally confused by that team. How can you wear an ASU hat and a Tuscon shirt? That's like wearing a Yankees hat and Red Sox shirt, or like wearing an Ohio State hat and Michigan shirt. It's just wrong! And yes, I thought of both Seth Rogen and the guy from Superbad the second I saw him.
How could you not know that? She mentioned it literally every time she was on screen. And she's clearly beaten him into submission about it, because he apologized for it every time he was on screen too. They're going to quickly get annoying if they don't turn the page already.

Overall, a good start. The Old Hippies might have been fun to watch for another episode or two, but they just didn't have any competitive spirit. It was inevitable that they were going early, so I'm not disappointed. I totally would have done the cargo net. That was a no brainer, as was the counting of the steps. And someone asked earlier if they knew there would be a question at the top. Yes, they did. It was part of the clue.

Maybe the guy is from Tucson but attended ASU? WHen I went to ASU, there were quite a few people from Tucson going to ASU. Conversely, I knew a lot of folks from the Phoenix area that headed down to Tucson and went to U of A. It's not like he was wearing a U of A shirt.

    Random thoughts:

No surprise the Hippie Beekeepers got knocked out. We've had hippie teams in the past, of course, but this one seems to basically have approached TAR as a free vacation to Brazil. I'm never one to advocate "going extreme" on the first leg, but they just weren't trying at all.

Gotta echo the non-love for Terance and Sarah. He doesn't seem to see her as an equal, and that always ticks me off. And his insecurity apparently knows no bounds. But Sarah? SHUT THE HECK UP ALREADY! I think she talked more in the first episode than half the other teams combined. She's overcompensating by trying to be overtly, and annoyingly, friendly to everyone.

Andrew and Dan are the two weirdest "frat boys" I've ever seen on this show.

Tina? Go away, please. You set the world's record for making me be unsympathetic to a woman whose husband slept around on his wife. 9 minutes. I marked the time. By the end of the hour, I was almost giving a mulligan to Ken for cheating on her. And I Don't Do That, period. Tina's in the early running for one of the most Amazingly Annoying people on the race.

I can't really pull out much "rooting interest" this early, but I never really can in episode 1.

Toni and Dallas (mom/son) have some promise, but maybe we just haven't seen their bad side yet. They seem to have a decent attitude so far. Mark and Bill (comic book guys) have potential, but I have a feeling the show will overdo the "comic book geek" thing with them, or encourage them to do so. I can picture the producers off screen... "so, tell us why this reminds you of your favorite comic book character"...

(Who was the well-liked "nerd" team from a few seasons ago...Dave and Lori?)

I learned from another forum that Starr's full name is
Emily Starr Spangler, she started using Starr Spangler when she was a cowboys cheerleader.

I'm very glad to have TAR back. Love it.

My wife and I realized last night that the last time we saw Phil and the Race, was then night before our daughter was born! It's been too long.
