Cameron probably figures that if Skynet sent the 888 then it must be up to no good, and so stopping it can't do anything bad for them, and it might do some good.

As far as Riley goes, the writers are staying away from the obvious because this is a network TV show and John and Riley are supposed to be minors. If she really wanted to get his attention/make him fall in love with him/whatever she'd just take her shirt off and be done with it.

All are valid points, but something is being overlooked. As far as we know, her primary mission is to protect John. She has visited this guy more than just this one time. Which means she was sneaking out of the house well before she was aware of the 888 being in the 1920's. Finding out about him was an accident so that couldn't have been why she was there in the first place. It just doesn't seem like typical Toaster behavior to deviate from her primary mission and put it in jeopardy just to browse through historic records.

The only explanation for it that even makes a little sense to me is the wonky chip theory.

Furthermore, I think she knows she's broken.

When Cameron was visualizing the governor getting shot on the podium, was she extrapolating from the sign in the lobby or was that an actual memory (from a newscast) of an assassination? Before she hurried away from the library to go to Pico Tower, she looked like she had a sudden recollection.

The sign only makes sense if it actually is currently 2010 in the series timeline.

    People's...
My wife was terribly amused when I made her pause the show to point out that possibility. What a rocking cameo that would have been too.

It might be that we're meant to take this as a sign of how limited and narrow metal can be. But I think it works better if the reason for this assassination has more to do with the circumstances in which it happens than the person. Maybe it doesn't have to be in this particular building but it has to happen in the way it happened in this building, and the best way to assure that is to get as close as possible to recreating the original circumstances. Maybe it's not about the governor at all: maybe it's about the effect witnessing that assassination might have on someone else present, for instance. I hope we get some explanation to that effect. But since we have no idea why the assassination was to happen, we have no idea that it wasn't something like that.

I completely didn't get that. If that's true, it might make it hopeful that we will, indeed, learn more about why this assassination is so important, and why its circumstances are so important, too.

The text previously had referred to something along the lines of simulation to determine optimum firing angles, so I assume it was part of that simulation, put in a form we could understand.

I actually did think that when I saw the three stars, however if that is what the 3 dots are it still has nothing to with the assassination. The stars is a reference point to figure out when in time you are. It is like looking at the position of the sun to try to figure out the hour or using the north star/southern cross to figure out direction.

Can anyone tell me the name of the actor who played the librarian? I know I recognize him, and it's driving me insane.

    Thanks

I couldn't find him because his IMDB profile doesn't list the episode we're talking about, only next weeks episode.

But he was Trombley from Generation Kill! That's where I knew him from.

    Thanks all.

TSCC has very lazy writers. They will never explain this because they did not create a reason for it. They just thought it would be a great mini story to have Cameron go thru this. Being able to explain how every event falls into place requires writers that have a master plan and write for it. It has been painfully obvious that TSCC has never had a master plan.

But, I still enjoy the show.

I noted that too, Todd Stashwick (Dale from Riches, as well as guest appearance on Psych, Life and Ghost Whisperer) who played the T-888 is not credited for TSCC.

I assumed it was simple to do historical research looking for anything interesting or unusual that might be helpful in her overall mission. In this case she stumbled upon some records that showed a terminator had arrived in the past and done some stuff.

When you've got lots of time to kill (because you don't sleep) doing deep research would seem like a reasonable way to use some of it.

But she's supposed to be protecting John!! Kinda hard to do that when she's looking up old records!

    Not directed at you, bkc.

No, according to the end of Samson and Deliliah, she's supposed to be terminating John, but somehow overrode this. :)
