Hey guys, my wife has lost the remote. I am trying to telnet into it to enable Network Remote Control. So we can control via our phone. But I am unable to telnet into the tivo.
Connecting To 192.168.1.139...Could not open connection to the host, on port 31339: Connect failed
I have rebooted it still same issue. Any thoughts?
Oh this system has not been hacked.

You can't telnet into it until you enable Network Remote Control, so you've got a chicken and egg problem here. If you have one of the OLED S3 boxes you can use the front panel controls to navigate the menus, but if you have a THD or Premiere you'll need the remote control. You could probably pick up a cheap universal remote that has basic TiVo functionality if you can't find your peanut.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. It's a THD, can you recommend an cheap remote that will work well?

Back in the day I used to use this one but I'm not sure how easy it is to find anymore. A replacement basic peanut runs $20 on Amazon.

Any recent model $10 universal should be able to control it enough to get you into the menus.

You could also check your local Sears and see if they have any URC-8820's being closed out at 2.99

(I think I got the last two they had to sell online)

I assume you only have one TiVo in the house (or you could use the remote from the other one), so yours is already set for remote address 0 anyway, so nothing to get screwed up on that front.

Ok I bought a Harmony 300, I seem to be able to do everything but I can't figure out how to get into the menu where I can play back recorded shows.
I guess I should put this in a new thread.

Can't you get TiVo Central to come up?

    Press the TiVo button twice.

Since it's not a TiVo brand remote it might not have a "TiVo" button.

If it has a menu button, that should do the same thing.
