Strange that there are no posts from Ted. I wonder what it does?
Did anyone ask @TiVo_Ted what new TE3 update 20.7.4b.RC3 is?
I looked and hardly saw any posts in his profile anymore.
It's done and it took the same as a normal restart I guess, and now it's all shiney and new...LOL.
WTF and WHATEVER... LOL
Oh, looks like my XL4 is downloading it now. No sign of it on the Mini...
NOPE, who knows what it was downloading...Not on the XL4
Looks like the update went smoothly on my Roamio Pro.
I wouldn’t expect any new features as TE3 is retired. It’s probably some kind of bug fix or updated certificate or something.
My trusty old Premiere got the update overnight. My Roamio OTA & Minis are still on 20.7.4.RC42.
The update is adding "ads" to the guide list......
He was last here yesterday afternoon. I think he checks in while drinking his morning coffee. My theory on the update is it changes some copyrights. I don't have it yet.
I’m not sure exactly what the update is supposed to do either, but I can tell you, cosmetically speaking, it has majorly sped up doing things.
It now switches channels a whole lot faster, pulling up shows is faster, and navigation through things is very much faster. It’s as if there was an optimization in this update which removes any lagging of anything. The SD parts of the menus are still SD, but even they work faster than they did.
I can’t find anything else yet in digging around through my unit to see what is different, but I can definitely tell you, that the update sped everything up majorly, and it speeds around almost as fast as I can press the buttons on the remote to do things.
If I find anything else, I’ll update on it.
Maybe your box simply benefited from the reboot. I didn’t experience any of those issues before or after the software update.
I'll die laughing ... if that happens.....
Sometimes (you did see sometimes, right) TE3 folks act like Apple fans and come across as a little "I'm better than you."
My guess is they planted some seeds for a later time, i.e., ads.
I still maintain that it's to add a "hook" so that the (upcoming?) TiVo Mini Wireless Adapter will work on the TE3 platform as well as TE4. And I'm going to stick with that wishlist.
Just received b on one Mini & Roamio. I'll check the rest later.
Quite a wish. It will need more than a hook. The whole networking interface will have to be modified. The user interface alone will be a major change. But I can hope you are right and I'm wrong.
Should it be true that the networking is not going to 802.11, I find it hard to believe a Roamio Pro can handle 5 Mini boxes or a basic Roamio can handle three.
I checked the copyright page and it says copyright 2017, so it doesn’t look like that was updated.
That'll be for the next update.
I think you might be right. It was mentioned that the wireless adapter could bypass the router and connect directly to the host Tivo. If that is the case, I think they would need to update the software on the host DVR as well as the MINI.
If you're honest with yourself you'll realize that there are just as many TE4 fans just like that as well.
My A93 Mini & Roamio got the update. Only one left in my house without the update is A92 Mini.
