Apparently SNL declined to pick up the contracts for Killam and Pharoah for the upcoming season. Both had just finished their sixth seasons on the show and, at least according to Killam, he had a seven-season deal and was planning to come back for at least one more year.

I'm not that surprised that they let Pharoah go, as he wasn't used all that much, despite his awesome impressions. But Killam was basically the go-to male performer on the show and probably the #2 overall performer after Kate McKinnon. So I'm really surprised they showed him the door.

The show also let Jon Rudnitsky go after one season, but that was expected given that he barely ever made it on screen.

I wonder who lasted the longest as a performer on SNL?

Darrell Hammond had the record for most episodes, but I think Kenan Thompson is getting very close or may have already passed Hammond. But I'm not sure how that has been affected by Hammond being the new announcer for the show and occasionally appearing as Bill Clinton last season.

Yeah, offhand, I'd guess Thompson. Tim Meadows was on a long time too, I think. And Hammond. Gotta be the top 3 there.

    According to Wikipedia:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Live_cast_members

Darrell Hammond was on for 14 seasons. Kenan has been on for 13 (will be starting his 14th season this fall). Between writing and performing, Seth Meyers was also on the show for 13 seasons. Al Franken was on the show for 12 seasons in two separate stints. Fred Armisen was on for 11 seasons. Tim Meadows was on for 10 seasons. Kevin Nealon and Jason Sudekis were on for 9 seasons. Then there is a huge list of people that were on for 8 seasons.

E: Or what hefe posted while I was typing.

I couldn't disagree more. It's not that I don't like Thompson, but he basically plays one charracter. It was time to move on from him several seasons ago. Killam was way more versatile, yet he's gone (to his directing career). We've joked that Kenan must have photos of Lorne with a goat to have stayed this long.

True, he doesn't have a lot of versatility but he makes me laugh so that's all I care about.

I guess I haven't watched SNL in a while. I don't recognize those names. I googled them, and don't recognize their faces.

I thought the article said he had a year remaining on his contract. I think it probably had something to do with their deal with Showtime.

My first reaction to this thread was "Who?" I haven't watched SNL in decades. I grew up watching Belushi and Ackroyd and Chevy Chase and the rest of the original cast. It just seemed to go downhill from there so I stopped watching it.

It clearly still has a strong following if it's still on. Then again, what's their competition late on Saturday nights? The few times I have seen it in the past 15 or 20 years didn't impress me so I never went back to it.
