Best line in the recap:
I'm glad Vince is gone, too. He was creepy. I liked his expression when they kicked him. He had no clue that was going to happen.
I might agree with that, but if I'm remembering correctly, Vince decided he would shoot the baskets, didn't make a single shot, and when Will stepped up to give it a shot, Vince didn't relinquish the spot.
There is No Collar, and then there is Coconut Vendor. I cracked up every time I saw that. Vince just seemed like too much of a nut case and too into himself to be a good team player. I'm glad he was voted out.
May not have been a mistake though - in a tribe like that (free thinking) having someone around who is so paranoid just 6 days in could be so drastically draining that cutting off the disease is the only option. Plus, he really wasn't all that great at challenges anyway (like Will pointed out).
I think Will changing his vote off of Nina to Vince was smart for him because Vince was the one that was questioning Will's heart and commitment. AFTER (at least in the edit anyway) Will had given Vince key information that they were planning to split the vote and Vince was potentially one of the targets.
Vince needed to go.
Nina needs to calm down and realize she needs to work more to fit in than the others need to work to try to include her. It seemed to me that they were trying to get her involved, but it was difficult and I know we heard the women say that they were going skinny dipping with her and at least Will around the campfire so her losing it and saying she was specifically excluded couldn't have been more wrong. She is in desperate need of a life line in the form of a tribal swap/change up.
Had Will voted for Jenn, he would be in an alliance of 3, dominating an alliance of 2. Vince would need him, regardless of his performance in challenges. And he would have the option of switching to the other side and voting out Vince later.
Now his best hope is to remain with Nina in an alliance of 2, dominated by an alliance of 3.
And his worst case is an alliance of 1.
Bad move, Will.
Maybe not. That alliance of 3 included Vince who questioned Will's stamina for the game. There's a decent chance he will make it to the (expected) shuffle into 2 tribes. That could change everything.
If somebody is planting seeds to get you out...you get them out first #russelhantz!
No, his best hope is sticking with the alliance of 3, who he helped. I think everyone already knew he was playing both sides, so when he sided with the 3, he committed to them. Now, he might be #4 of the 4, but Nina is #1 of the 1.
All Will has to do is make it to the next cycle and join up with Joe and frame it in a way that prevents the 3 women joining forces and taking the two guys out.
Sticking in an alliance that even before a vote is questioning your commitment is never a good option. Going to an alliance on the bottom is better than sticking with one that isn't sure you're going to be around for the long haul.
I was happy to see that the fat guy who wanted to compete and promised to do well, really did.
They didn't seem to get that the deaf girl couldn't "hear" them unless they looked directly at her face. And she didn't allow for the possibility that she hadn't "heard" everything they tried to say to her. Duh.
The way he was hugging on that one girl (whose name I don't know yet) and was all jealous on Day 1 was really interesting. He would have made for some good TV but if I had to put up with him, I'd have probably wanted him gone too.
Still too early for me to make predictions. I do think the idea of "blindsiding" on week 2 is just dumb. Keep the tribe strong, blindside later. But in some cases, keeping the tribe strong can mean getting rid of weirdos.
Why not? She has cochlear implants. She's not a lip-reader. I mean, she *may* be able to read lips, but she doesn't need to.
I liked Will's humor at TC. "Water... the black man's Kryptonite"
Oh, thanks. I didn't catch that. So what's the big deal? She should be able to hear whatever is going on, but she seemed to be out of it some of the time.
I didn't hear her say she wasn't a lip reader. My take was that she was profoundly deaf, but now with the implants she can hear sounds but not make out conversations unless she's looking at who's talking.
I think the issue is that with cochlear implants you hear sound but you have no directionality to tell where the sound is coming from. So she can probably hear that there is sound but without some kind of cue to let her know that sound is directed at her, she has no idea that she is supposed to pay attention. She probably hears everything at the same volume whether it's the ocean or the wind in the trees or people talking, and it's not until she can look at someone's lips moving before she can filter out what's being said from all the background noise.
I'm worried that they just voted out 2 people (So and Vince) who would have made the season very interesting. We may end up with only bland players and a bad season.
I don't think keeping two players who have zero concept of self awareness and game play make for a good or interesting season. I want to see players play, not the clueless wander around stumbling into another 3 days of safety by accident.
I guess I do not agree with your view that they were both cluless. "So" lost a power struggle early but clearly came to play. Vincent was voted out because of an offhand remark by Nina. He even went as far as putting his feelings in check as far as voting out Joe.
