So I'm watching Season 1 again. Just started.

At 10 minutes in on the first episode, Richard Hatch says they need to plan what to do as they'll be together for the next 21 days.

Sure as heck seems like they all know their will be a merge and they know exactly when it'll be. I thought they were surprised by it.

Anyways, it's very interesting going back to Season 1, after watching all 22 seasons. It'll be fun to see how the game has changed.

I remember season 1 better than some of the recent ones.

    BTW, it's Borneo. ;)

Although it got retroactively named that after several seasons. It wasn't initially referred to by its location, and when they started to do that they first called it by it's more precise location, Pulau Tiga.

The only time I've ever watched Survivor was the final episode of season 1. All I really remember is the immunity challenge where they were supposed to stand up on logs while touching an idol. Hatch voluntarily bowed out (I didn't realize until reading on Wikipedia that he didn't step out until 2 1/2 hours in). The moment he did that I knew who the winner was going to be--it was an absolute genius move.

But if Kelly had picked closer to Greg's number at TC, she would have won.

I believe Greg's "jury question" was along the lines of "I can't decide (or don't care) between the finalists, so pick a number between 1 and 100."

Yet I can't remember where I put my glasses 10 minutes ago.

Rich won Greg's vote, and the overall vote 4-3.

And after season 10, "Survivor: Palau", they renamed season 1 to "Survivor: Borneo, to reduce confusion again.

It is interesting to see how random the votes are, initially. Until Hatch comes up with the idea of Alliances.

But was it really Hatch that came up with the idea of an alliance? I've only seen the first episode, but two of the girls approached Sue Hawk about voting for Rudy. And all the other 3 girls did vote for Rudy. They almost had an all-woman alliance in the first episode. Sue even said "the girls think I'm voting for one person, but I'm really voting for someone else".

    is it...
I think Hatch's contribution was the idea of a core alliance that would last the whole game (with him steering its direction) instead of a group banding together for one vote.
