This season is interesting in the contrast between Rob and Russell.

I've never really been a fan of either (as people) but enjoy watching them both. Does this sort of hammer home the fact that Rob is the better player?

Both were feared, both had targets. Rob seems very safe and in control. Russell never was.

Russell played a pretty lousy game. He could have done more of a Jimmy Johnson thing and said "Look, I know I won't go very far, but let me stick around and help since I've done this before and can give a lot of insight."

Instead, he gets two weak players and somehow tries to win from an enormously out-numbered position. He was somehow counting on a combination of finding an idol + hope to make him go far.

Or perhaps he knew he wouldn't last long and thus didn't try very hard. He might even say that. But that's not Russell. He just isn't that good at the game anymore. He's created a Russell that just won't make it far ever again. He peaked. He's done.

Honestly, he could have probably actually tried to solve it. They were way behind at that point and Rob is the puzzle master. I doubt he could have won even if he tried to solve the puzzle with all his might.

What was with the armpits? It looked to me like he shaved them recently and got a rash. Why would he shave his armpits all-of-a-sudden?

Fortunately for them, there wasn't anything "necessary" awarded the winners, just luxury items. Given that, it was a prime moment to ditch Russell. Russell had to be removed promptly. Leaving him in the game left open the possibility that he would really have found the hidden II, created new alliances or some other strange dynamic might have occurred.

Ralph is a lot smarter than people think. Many would have loved to have waved around the II after Russell and his posse tried to suggest that they had it. Ralph just kept quiet. I lived in the south for two years and those "hillbillies" are often more cagey than you think. They know it and play up the "duh" factor while reeling you in. Don't underestimate them.

Is there another II available at Rob's team? Didn't Kristina already find it and use it? Is it an automatic that a new II is planted each time one is used? If so, Rob's team is now in search of their second II while Ralph's is still searching for the first one (not knowing Ralph has it).

Yes it was mentioned that he shaved them recently. I don't know why unless perhaps he was trying to cut down on body odor while on Survivor.

Historically, once a HII is used, it is put back into the game and re-hidden. Not sure about rules for this year until it is found again.

I'm surprised at this comment. My biggest problem with Survivor is that you can pretty reliably figure out who is voted out: they get the most screen time. Ralph wasn't going anywhere cause he got almost no screen time. Russell was in almost every shot...

But it's the standard move. It's always this way "just in case"...heck, Rob did it at the first vote this season and he did it in seasons past (but that dummy, I forget his name, didn't follow the plan and got voted out)

Matt should have lost to Phransasquya ;)...I wouldn't bet more than a nickel if I were you!

Why the need to lie to Russell about who was at RI? What purpose could it serve?

I like him, too. He reminds me of Big Tom from the Africa season.

The weird thing, though, was that the rash was mostly not even anywhere he would have shaved! It was much lower and off to the sides of where armpit hair would grow. Maybe they were bug bites of some kind, although I don't know why bugs would only bite his armpits. :)

Throwing the comp was soooo short term thinking. It was just plain dumb.

You have an alliance of 6 who each claim they are solid. And you are up 2 to nothing against the other tribe. You should keep going for the win. If you lose... that is when you get rid of Russell.

I really hope Rob's tribe goes on a winning streak.

What I don't understand is the older woman who they tried to flip looking so smug at Tribal. From what they have shown us she is at the bottom of her own alliance. And now she just pissed off what would have been her only would be allies (who she will need later) cuz of that smirk.

I wanted Russell or one of his harem to ask the 'honorable alliance' if they would swear on the lives of their loved ones that they did not throw the challenge. Would have been great to see them answer /not answer that one.

I had forgotten that Ralph was the only one that knew HE had the II. Now it makes more sense for everybody else to throw a challange and get Russell out of there before HE could find it. I still think it was a bad move (only being up 2 people, now 1) but at least it makes more sense.

Francesca was the only Survivor I liked so far this season. Time to find a new favorite.

No, he was saying that it was smart for the group of 3 to fake having the immunity idol in order to get the 6 to split their vote. Overcoming a 6 to 3 vote is pretty much impossible, but a 3-3-3 tie is relatively easy to overcome.

I'm of two minds about the events of this week's ep:

    1) They were smart to get rid of Russell as fast as possible.
    2) Survivor History tells us that you should never, ever, throw an immunity challenge in order to vote someone out early. I can't remember a time where that has worked.

That said, through 3 eps, this might just be the best season of Survivor ever. Maybe it's just that compared to the terrible Nicaragua season, this one is epic, but even HvV wasn't this good this fast, was it?

I got a big kick out of Russell being so smug when he found the clue to the immunity idol then being puzzled by the dead thing next to the live thing referring to the idol that hillbilly previously found in the dead tree log.

Yeah Russell, some trees are dead as well as rocks and sand.

Just a few observations and points to make, based on my infinite understanding of the game of Survivor...

    1. You can never get rid of Russell fast enough. If you have to throw the first immunity challenge to get rid of him, it's still too late. All too many people have thought they could keep the serpent around for a while and it would benefit them in some way. They were beheaded before they realized it was a bad idea.

    2. The chick that was waffling on her vote has a more masculine shaped face than just about every man I've ever seen. It is scary looking. Every time I see her I think she must be a tranny.

that's fine...and my counter to that is that you do that regardless just in Rob (and others) have shown through multiple seasons...

it's the smart thing to do...the fact that they pretended to have an idol should not have mattered...

    Which was so great.

I really hope that made Russell realize he's not all that. They totally got him on so many levels. Even ones that don't matter that much. :)
