Jeff is a tool that deserves no praise.
why do you say that?
It must be opposite day.
Nope, it is Friday not Wednesday
Jeff really has no interviewing skills - anyone of us that watch this show could do just as good if not a better job. I don't like his all mighty host persona. He brings nothing to the table year after year saying the same crap playing the same cards with the contestants.
When he does have a chance to shine - the finale and reunion show - he does a horrible job. Anybody that has sat threw any of those should and will agree to that.
With all that being said he is still the best of the best of the reality show hosts - but if thats what his claim to fame will be - he deserves it.
Personally, I like Jeff and think he's just about perfect for the job.
Agreed, especially since he doesn't get guidance from MB or watching the uncut footage, he is there real time reading the survivors and asking just the right questions.
I'm with the crowd that thinks Jeff is a likeable guy and does a great job. He asks tough questions and picks enough to try to uncover what's going on. Those who saw the early seasons of Survivor where Jeff wasn't the host for the finale should know how much better it is now that he does it.
Ditto. I hafta' say I absolutely cringed throughout Bryant Gumbel's hosting job at the first one or two finales and have really enjoyed Jeff's style during the reunion shows since then. He knows some inside stuff and can bring out those details during the show.
As far as each episode on the island goes, Jeff has certain scripted lines he repeats every episode. e.g., "Wanna know what you're playing for?" "It IS … time to vote", " I'll go tally the votes", etc. etc. Those do not diminish his abilities as host, IMHO.
BTW, is Jeff still in a personal relationship with that previous contestant -- what was her name -- Jenna? Or is he on the prowl again? I would think that with so much traveling for the show, that it would be difficult to hold down a relationship.
That's what I was hoping for.
I think you find that most people will disagree with you on this. I find Jeff to be perfect for this position. He knows how to bring stuff out of the Survivors. He can easily pry for two to three hours in Tribal Council. He gets to the heart of the matter.
As far as the Reunion show, did you ever watch the first reunions with Bryant Gumbel? I don't think he even watched the show. Rosie was only marginally better. At least she knew the show and the contestants. There is only so much he can ask in one hour (and try to get to every contestant at least once.)
I got a kick out of Erik improvising the new tribe name. His "that means good in Micronesian" was a hoot and when one of the girls repeated that at TC, I thought for sure Jeff was going to expose him.
Actually, those aren't scripted...Survivor doesn't have writers.
Those lines appeared by magic.
This is one of those areas Jeff is pretty good at calling. Someone will say something, or show an emotion, and Jeff will pick at it, and expose it for everyone to see. But other times (like this), he knows to leave it be. If he says something, it could put Erik in an uncomfortable position, having "played" his tribemates.
Add me to the Probst supporters. I think he does a great job of facilitating these people. How many times have you watched someone display an emotion at Tribal Council, and think to yourself, "Why on earth are they saying that sh*t? Don't they know to keep their trap shut?" It's Jeff who's getting them to open up.
I still get ill thinking about Bryant and especially Rosie Blowhard hosting the reunion show. What the hell was CBS/MB thinking?
wow...I really could not disagree with you more. I think that Jeff has more than once changed the outcome of the game by some of his questions and comments.....sometimes a little too much for my liking but still worth it.
oh man....I totally forgot about that. That was fantastic. I really was waiting for Jeff to call him out on that. That will be great fun at the reunion show!!!
For example on last nights TC....Jeff caught that the chick was using past tense and called her out. I was very impressed by that.
