Jonathan's voice reminds me of Alan Alda.

I hope the team of four wins the remaining immunity challenges. They all deserve to get to the merge.

I was waiting to see if Jeff would disallow that tactic, as when he announced how the challenge would be played that the boats must be line up over the arrow. I mean, they have rules about being on the mat, etc., so I just wasn't sure if Yul's very smart "cheat" would have been allowed. I'm glad it was!

    Me too:
The previews showed Jeff holding a bottle with a tiny rolled up note, and he said that the bottle "reveals all" or something to that affect. What exactly is there to reveal? The only thing I can think of is that Yul has the hidden immunity idol. So maybe the note just announces that the idol was found, or goes further to say that someone on Aitu has it, or goes all the way and says that Yul has it.

So please understand, I say this as a card-carrying Caucasian from a long line of Caucasians: but whitey got to go! I can't stand any of those folks. I'm a big Ozzy fan, personally. And Yul.

I'm starting to think the whole 'division by race' thing may actually crop up again as we get to the end. If so, it should be much more interesting than it was at the outset.

Jonathan seems to be the only one still thinking about racial alliances. He commented this episode that the 4 Caucasians should hook back up. Of course, the other three think he's a tool so that isn't gonna happen!

I too am rooting for Ozzy or Yul.

Me too. I would be happy at this point if Yul or Ozzie wins, but Yul has the best shot seeing that he has the hidden immunity idol.

This is my first season watching though, so I have no idea how that plays out with this jury business ... I had no clue what that was about when Jeff mentioned Brad was first member of the jury - that was just confusing to me and I had to replay that scene five times. After reading comments here, I'm starting to figure it out, but you'd think that Jeff or someone else on-screen would explain what the jury is (or the merge for that matter), for the benefit of viewers watching Survivor for the first time!

Didn't Yul set the idol adrift in the ocean so no one else could get it? I seem to remember that.

Or was it anchored for retrieval later?

I'm a little partial to Candy, just in terms of keeping some eye candy on the show. Not a fan of Poverty. The only people I think deserve to win are Ozzy and Yul.

I think Ozzie stands half a shot, he could very possibly win idividual immunity most if not all the time.

Have we learned this year when the idol becomes useless? Last year just stated that from the start.

A survivor noob  Didn't know those existed.

Up until the final two, every tribe member is voted out by their tribe. Up until this season, the final 7 members voted out (9 thru 3rd place) have formed the jury. Each tribal council they sit in an listen, however they do not interact with the remaining contestents.

With only two people left, they come to tribal council and ask the jury to vote for them. The final two first get a chance to give an opening statement to the jury about why they should be the winner. Each jury member then has an opportunity to either (a) pose a question to one or both contestants or (b) make a statement (see Sue Hawk "Rats and Snakes" speech.) After the Q&A, the contestants will then make a final closing statement.

The jury then votes on who they think deserves to be the winner of Sole Survivor (and $1 Million).

This year, they apparently have increase the size of the jury. With Brad there was 12 people left. Assuming that all remaining people voted off are part of the jury and that there is only a Final 2, there would be a jury of 10. That introduces the possibility of a tie vote at the end.

It wouldn't surprise me if they shuffle everyone into two new teams next week.

That would be an interesting twist..... but it could be possible they introduce a 2nd exile island immunity idol.... that might be a little bit much though. Last season the ideol didn't seem to help fighter pilot dude who was so dominate and seriously odd man out when they got to the merge.

Oh and the merge is when they bring the two tribes together in to one tribe. Immunity challenges will be won by one person and that one person will be safe from the vote. The immunity idol for those challenges will probably change also to some kind of necklace thing.

see... I have a different theory...

based on next weeks previews, I'm thinking that it has something to do with being able to vote someone out of the jury...

He took the Immunity Idol out of the package it was in, then sent the package out to sea. This was so that no one else who got sent to Exile Island would find the package and know that someone else already found the idol.

    Yup! I'm a Survivor noob!

Thanks for explaining the jury process. This makes more meaningful the knowing glances between the remaining Raro members when Jeff announced Brad was the first jury member.

Thanks for explaining the merge. I mostly figured this out, so I can't wait to see the individual immunity challenges in action.

Did this happen on the special-magical-never-before-seen Survivor recap special? That's the only episode so far this season that I didn't watch ...

Hmmm now I don't remember. I thought it was in the original episode but I watched them both so it could have been in either.

I don't remember seeing it, and I saw the original episode but did not see the recap show. Then again, I'm not always paying full attention to the TV when Survivor is on, so it may have been in the original episode and I missed it.
