Hey at least we aren't the beta testers this time.
I wonder if they'll get the "major release" coming early next year before us as well?
My guess is it will go Virgin, retail maybe Elite only first off since smaller testing pool, RCN, Suddenlink and then regular Premiere.
I don't think the release will be targeted at Virgin at all. I believe they are already running a version of the next generation software. I think this release is targeted at domestic retail first followed by roll-out to the cable providers as you speculated. I will start another thread to see if there is an interest in collecting the speculation as to what will be included in the next version.
I didn't think the Virgin TiVo was 100% HD though in menus but I may be wrong. Also I believe this could be the big step towards a consolidation of the platform and software versions so I would expect them to see an update, but probably not as impressive assuming retail gets a complete HDUI.
RCN has had MRS enabled already so Suddenlink is not the first.
