Given that we can copy recordings off a Tivo, as long as they have not been flagged as copy protected, what is the limitation in streaming of content off a Tivo to say a PC/laptop, or a set-top device.

Currently the (TiVo) software does not support this feature (Neither do any third party plugins for TiVo). It could potentially be added eventually but as of now the only way of doing this easily is to use a slingbox to stream to computers and mobile devices (one at a time). Though that feature built in would be awesome!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

The newest Premiere software allows streaming, including protected content, between multiple Premiere units. So there is potentially something there that could be exploited to allow stream to a PC.

Thanks Orangeboy. Yup that is a bit klugie, but does answer my question, now if only someone smarter than I would write a friendly front end.

In looking at the long command string, I noticed it ended in a dash, which I found strange, is this correct? Pasted below is what I copied out of the code block.

    curl --retry 3 --anyauth --globoff --user tivo:<mymak> --insecure --cookie-jar %TEMP%\cookie2317053181494366691.tmp --url "http://tivos3/download/Criminal%20Minds.TiVo?Container=%2FNowPlaying&id=210009&Format=video/x-tivo-mpeg" | tivodecode --mak <mymak> --out - - |"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --file-caching=2000 -

If memory serves correctly, the final trailing dash is an indicator to VLC to take it's input from "stdin". You'll want to update the url:
    Code:
    http://tivos3/download/Criminal%20Minds.TiVo?Container=%2FNowPlaying&id=210009&Format=video/x-tivo-mpeg
to a recording specific to your DVR, specifically replacing "tivos3" with the IP address of your TiVo (unless you have a HOSTS file or local DNS server to resolve name to IP address), and "Criminal%20Minds.TiVo?Container=%2FNowPlaying&id=210009" to the show and container that you want to "stream".

Thanks for verifying that the dash has a purpose and nothing is missing.

I wonder if one of the devs at work has a tivo and might be interested....
