Watched the 1st ep on CW. No idea if it’s materially different being 11 minutes shorter than the streaming version, but I’m in.

    I do think
Pat knew it was Starman in Courtney’s pendant but he’s keeping it from her thinking it’d protect her and the family. But bad guy probably knows who she is or is close to, so lots of good that does.

I really liked this and I have no knowledge of the background stuff. I just pick up one of these shows now and then. Too much trouble to follow them all. Supergirl lost me when they started the different universes stuff. Too hard to keep track. Hopefully this one won't do that.

No more different universes. All one now. (And the different universes only mattered during the crossover events once a year anyway. The rest of the time, just plain stories.)

    Long...
I was excited for this show. But after coming here and learning they're gonna do crossover crap with the other characters, I'm a lot less excited. DC needs a clean slate of sorts in a show. Oh well. Stargirl hits CW's demographics pretty well, so I suspect it'll survive a while.

Not all one...there's the Arrowverse Universe, the Doom Patrol Universe, the JSA (Stargirl) Universe, the Swamp Thing Universe....not sure if I left any out. Probably did! They showed them at the end of Crisis.

There was a glimpse of the universe for the upcoming HBO Max Green Lantern show...

There’s been nothing to suggest a crossover yet. It may happen or not. Also, this show was developed for DC Universe (streaming service) with CW later deciding to air repeats the next day so it might really stay separate.

(Yes, it was briefly shown in Crisis, but so was every other DC property)

Those scenes were controversial and up for interpretation. They keep saying no more multiverse in the shows themselves.

I really don’t think they plan on crossing over with the earths that were shown at the end (Stargirl, Titans, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Superman Returns, or Green Lantern).

All the CW (Arrowverse) shows are on one earth and from the character’s perspective there is no more multiverse.

No, they clearly showed alternate Earth's and who was on them.
(In particular, Brandon Routh's Superman back to his traditional costume.)
Not to mention that the opening narration of the final episode clearly stated that there was a Multiverse created.

It looks like the heroes of Earth-Prime don't realize that a new multiverse exists at this time.
(Why would they when all of their methods of detecting and traversing to other Earths don't work.)

Anyhoo, about Stargirl, I liked it.
While I think that the CW version gave you the essentials, the DCU version gives more background information (which I suspect will come into play in later episodes).

I know that Geoff Johns has a special bond with the Courtney Whitmore character so I expect that there will be a fair amount of passion in this project.

I don't remember Pat building the S.T.R.I.P.E suit out of the Star Rocket Racer but ok.

I understand some conflating of Ted Knight and Sylvester Pemberton but it threw me for a moment.

I'm also not used to the Gravity Rod/Cosmic Rod/Cosmic Staff having more intelligence than a Power Ring but then I haven't read James Robinson's Starman.
(BTW, did I see that James Robinson is a producer on this show?)

All in all, this looks pretty good so far with a good cast.

He is, and you should. It’s a great series (fwiw so is the Stars & STRIPE series from Geoff Johns if anyone hasn’t read it).

    So I've heard.
I actually read the first issue of Starman but it came out at a time when I was dumping all my books so I missed out.

I have read Stars & S.T.R.I.P.E and all of the Justice Society books after that so I'm very familiar with the Courtney Whitmore character and her story.
(I particularly liked her interactions with Captain Marvel.)

For CW shows I usually can't get past one episode but I was surprised I liked this one as much as I did. Having a couple of non-teenage actors who I know from other things I liked helps.

    15 mins...
Episode 2 on DC Universal dragged in some spots. I didn't watch the CW version but cutting 11 minutes wouldn't have hurt.

I'm wondering if the episodes are specifically written to have ~11m of fluff...

I doubt it. It was originally just going to be on DCU. The decision to reair on CW came later.

Yeah the commercials breaks appeared wedged in. Weird cuts. I'm assuming no ads on DCU?

Enjoyed this latest episode as well. This Brainwave guy is an evil a-hole for sure.

When you name your organization "The Injustice Society of America," you're pretty much planting your flag.

Maybe not quite as on-the-nose as "The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants," but close. ;)
