Nobody is a bigger fan if all things trek. But...I just renewed cbsallaccess and am rewatching season 1. Episode 2 is 38 minutes long. That's not right. That's 38 with commercials. 44 without commercials is the norm.

I had forgotten about season 2 starting up... nearly missed the "winter premier" airing on Thursday. (We get it on cable).

    Thanks for the reminder!

Nice! Last night was good fun. Funny how The Orville had a storyline identical to the Voq/Ash story last year.

Since that refers to a different show, it should probably be in spoiler tags.

Considering both characters' human names were Tyler, I'd say it's safe to assume it wasn't a coincidence.

I can't say I was thrilled with it. Nice misdirection with the *red* shirt surviving, but that whole long flying/dropping scene was something you'd expect in a 2 hour movie and not a 42 minute show.

Anyone else think that fortune cookie was basically saying Lorca will be back?

I believe that more strongly than I believe the sun will rise tomorrow.

"Not every cage is a prison, nor every loss eternal."

I just thought it was a nod to the original Star Trek pilot episode with Captain Pike, The Cage (the events of which happened about 3 years before this episode in the timeline), and his eventual fate.

    15 mins...
Cocky homeboy got blowed up by the asteroid debris field and immediately forgotten. That'll teach him.

The only thing that bothers me about this show is that, like many other tv shows, the principal "star" is the only one who shows advanced courage, will power and intelligence. I like Burnham but she can't be the person who solves the big problems every time. At least not in the real, non-tv universe. Other than that, I'm glad the show is back.

I was thinking the exact same thing while watching this episode. I kept thinking of Wesley Crusher and hope the show doesn't go that route.

Is there a reason there are untagged spoilers about the latest episode in a non-spoilers, non episode, non-season thread?

Yeah, fiction scene for a fiction show, put there on purpose promoting an agenda for certain people. Boring and silly but I guess it works since its ongoing on most TV/Movies.

Somebody started a thread to discuss one specific episode, even though there was already a thread for that episode, and then people ran with it for some insane unknown reason?

I had the same thought. It was awesome! And this episode was over sixty minutes.

I really liked the change in tone with this episode. I liked season one a lot, but I loved this episode.
